Im confused by the stitching of the Name on the back. Was it stitched on a name plate in 97 or directly on the jersey?

Definately looks a little weird. I have a jersey from the 1997 year and the name is stitched on the name plate. The neck tag looks right and the made in Berlin WI tag looks right. The only thing I think that looks weird is the name stitching.
