Here's another example of misinformed consignors selling illiegitimate game used items! EVERYTHING that could be wrong with this bat is! Note the statement I underlined in the item description.

"You are bidding on an authentic Cal Ripken Jr. game used baseball bat. This is a Ripken model P72 bat which bears Ripken's facsimile signature on the barrel. The bat shows significant use and is cracked on the handle (beneath black tape). The knob of the bat is marked with what appears to read "TC" and the number 3. The bat is 32.5" long. The owner of this bat called Louisville Slugger a couple of years ago and they told him that this bat was issued to Cal in the 1982 baseball season. Shipping & handling is a fixed $19.99 within the contiguous US. Good luck! "

I have found that these stores that sell your items on eBay feel they can get away with selling game used items based on the description they receive from their consignor. They have no reason they feel to do any more homework.

Did you email the seller with your concerns?

Hi Joel--

I sent the seller an email today and let them know the situatio. There are about 6 days left in the auction so we'll see. At least there are currently no bids on it at this point. Unfortunately, as you point out, these drop-off sellers are pretty much at thew mercy of the consignor in doing their descriptions as they clearly cannot be experts in every field. I am pretty confident that the consignor did not get the info he presented from an H & B employee. The bat does look like some Little Leaguer hit about .400 with it though.

Here is the response from the seller less than 2 hours after notification. I think generally these consignment sellers try to do the right thing as their feedback rating can directly affect their business, probably moreso than an individual seller that can switch Ebay ID's at the drop of a hat.

Update--

The seller pulled this item and ended this auction about an hour after his response to me above.

Good job, an email to a concerned seller often works wonders!
