I figured I will start the March Pick Ups thread...:cool:

These will actually be March pick ups for I just ordered one of the items today and the other was paid for Monday and will be shipped today.

Neither item has been received yet, and it will be March before I receive them....:D

First is a Jason Hammel Fielding glove from Locker Room Memorabilia....

Second is a Kevin Stocker game used 1999 bat signed by nine including Boggs...

This is only the second Devil Rays Stocker bat I have seen to hit the market since 2005. The other is a 1998 and I own that one.

As a Dodgers fan, I dont even want manny anymore. He's clearly too selfish and that is never good for team chemistry. While 2 other Dodgers took a pay cut to sign a few key additions, Manny is still complaining that he's not getting enough money up front.

I am in the construction business, and when someone asks for a load of $$$ up front, you have to worry what quality of product you will get, or if you will get anything at all. Yes, I know construction and MLB baseball are worlds apart, but if you are committed to your contract, why ask for tons up front? Take the up front cash put out there, and collect your coin over the life of the deal.

I just received this game used bat today. It's a un-cracked Rob Picciolo bat from 1980-1983 when he was with the Brewers. Rob was a member of the 1982 Brewers World Series team. You don't see his bats around that much.

As Cigarman44 mentioned a couple of posts ago, we made a little trade. This goes for any of you too - if I end up with a bat you want, but didn't win/see at auction, etc. LET ME KNOW and I'll keep it for you until you are ready to pay/trade. In this case, Joe came across an Ankiel comeback bat. Since he has the second best bat from '07 (Mr. Scott has numero uno), he traded me another bat from the same batch as his. See below. There is a big a$$ chunk out of it, but the use is great - and I actually like it.

The other photo is of a Reggie Sanders Cards bat that I picked up from the afformentioned Jeff Scott (Birdbats). Maybe someday Jeff will tell the story of his horrid day...but regardless, the transaction was flawless, and I learned something very valuable too. ;)

I have just begun to build my collection. I added a Sizemore and Burgess bats to my collection this past week. My total is now at 3 lol.

As a side note: I just wanted to thank all of you who contribute to this forum. Just getting into the game used hobby I knew very little about bats. After spending a little time each day reading through forum posts I have gained so much knowledge and learned things to look for when purchasing bats and jerseys. I have only posted a few times before this and should start to do so on a regular basis. I also wanted to thank "garkocollector" for his help with one of my previous questions. Look forward to posting more. Thanks again to everyone! :D

Just got these in the mail today, might as well post in March pickups. 1997 Dwayne Carswell Denver Broncos used practice jersey, and Vaughn Hebron 1997 Broncos practice jersey. The Carswell is photomatched already. Both jerseys show hitmarks and piling of the spandex. Both have also been altered to the players specifications.

I just got this game used Chris Davis bat for my birthday. It was used in the game he hit his first MLB homerun. He hit the homerun in the third inning and this bat was broken in the fifth. So it could be the bat he actually hit the homerun with.

I recently picked up this Kris McCall 1992 Montreal Machine game used jersey w/ the Montreal 350th Anniversary patch. On top of it being a great looking jersey what really makes this jersey special to me is that McCall is a friend of mine from high school.

I have been hoping to find one of his jerseys and this one popped up on eBay so fortunately I was able to pick it up. If anyone ever runs across the McCall burgundy colored Machine jersey like the one in the football card please let me know.

Just picked up a Riddell Kra-Lite TK-2 49ers helmet. The helmet is complete with the original facemask and chinstrap. Inside the helmet, the interior webbing and pads are intact as is the Riddell warranty sticker. The clock above the right ear-hole shows the date of manufacture as 1974.

The helmet shows decent wear to the facemask and helmet shell and I am not sure why the helmet was signed by Roger Craig, Keena Turner, Eric Wright and one other unidentified player.

I was a big fan of his line-drive hitting style when he was here. he ended up being one of the better hitters in the game right now. When we traded him for Rolen, I was pretty happy - as I was a Rolen fan...but in retrospect, I think having Polanco for 5 more years instead might have been a better value - and he probably would have been a fan favorite.

I've been looking for a good one for several years - and the only other one I considered was at Left Field Collectibles. That one had a chunk out of the handle, and was a little pricey.

Here are my new bats: Tony Fernandez, Edgar Martinez, Franklin Gutierrez. I finally got the Edgar!

I've been working hard to try and photomatch the Gutierrez, he stopped using that tape job in July 2007 and it has some marks that should make it easy to match. I've went through Getty, AP, US Presswire, Flickr, Icon Sports Media, and MLB.com Any other websites I should try?? Also, is there a way I can see the mlb.tv archive from 2007?

I just picked these items up today. The bat is a un-cracked Angel Salome signed game used bat from 2008 season and one of his nameplates from his locker. The jerseys are all from Carlos Villanueva when he was in the minor leagues. They are 2005 Brevard County Manatees, 2006 Huntsville Stars, and a 2007 Nasville Sounds jersey. All the jerseys are signed by Carlos.

Finally, after re-reading the Mears letter more closely, I think this may be the very last MLB jersey Kelly Gruber ever wore. It's from 1997 Spring Training and the patches alone were a major sell job. Since I'll never afford a Blue Jays version, this was a pickup that made me happy.

..Finally, after re-reading the Mears letter more closely, I think this may be the very last MLB jersey Kelly Gruber ever wore. It's from 1997 Spring Training and the patches alone were a major sell job. Since I'll never afford a Blue Jays version, this was a pickup that made me happy.

The only time I can recall the Orioles of the 1990s wearing conventional ROAD jerseys during Spring Training was the game in Cuba in 1999. They've only been wearing home jerseys for Spring Training games for the last couple of seasons.

Great question Rudy. Since I saw Mears listed it as such, I have started to research more closely. I not only don't see a gray jersey in any spring games but I don't see the Baltimore 200 patch either. Looking over the team, backup catcher Charlie Greene wore #34 for 5 games in 1997. Mark Smith, a utility outfielder wore #34 for 3 games in 1994, 37 games in 1995 and 27 games in 1996. Both men had similar builds so they may have been responsible for the minor wear. The O's in theory might have added Gruber's nameplate to one of the previous players shirts for him to use in the regular season, logically assuming he would be a call-up. After all, Kelly was a 2 time World Series Champ and quality clubhouse veteran presence, but alas, it never happened.

I will have to look closely for any signs of nameplate/number changes. Unless someone has proof in the form of photographic evidence that the Orioles wore their Grays game jerseys during the 1997 Spring Training season, I am going to assume this is a game issued, 2 patched 1997 Orioles jerseys prepared by the O's but not worn by Kelly Gruber if he was called up from Rochester. Still a nice shirt for $50 :p

Just picked up my first game used (probably team issued) jersey! :D Todd played for the Bucs for several years, mostly as a reserve lineman. I miss those old Tony Dungy teams, he had some great guys playing for him.

This will compliment my Hardy Nickerson creamsicle orange, retail authentic 75th anniversary year jersey that I bought back in 1994. I was in high school then, so it took me a long time to save up the cash!

Looks like about 3 or 4 definite black ink transfers and at least 2 seam marks.Also,while they listed the bat as uncracked,there seems to be some grain seperation starting on the handle,like he got jammed without breaking the bat.What I like about it is that you can see some of the outline of Mac's grip in the handle pine tar,and the tell tale dark spot on the knob where he rested his finger.I thought it was a pretty good deal...

One more Bulls pickup. I've been looking for Rodman Bulls shoes for a long time now, and just finally found a great pair. Got em' from Rich Altman. He didn't know it, but they're from the 1995-96 season when they went 72-10. He used this style in March and April of that season. (Rodman wore Converse in his next seasons with the Bulls) Autographed too. Check 'em out: (Also there's a pair of Rodman Bulls shoes on ebay right now but I searched every getty's photo and every Bulls book and video I have and I couldn't find him using that style of Nikes-so beware).

I just received these great Alcides Escobar game used items today and I want to share them with you. First you have a un-cracked D-Bat from 2008 season, also a broken bat of his. Next you have a game used 2008 Huntsville Stars jersey and a 2007 Huntsville Stars game used jersey. I want to thank GUU forum member Zookerman182 for these great items!!

Dream do come true......FINALLY after over 15 YEARS of looking, salivating, dreaming and praying of getting this jersey I OWN HER.

1993/94 Vancouver Canucks Pavel Bure jersey. It has 3 nice size repairs meaning it was worn for more than just a game or two. Bure was known to wear a ton of shirts so multi-game used shirts for him are rare. It shows nice use in the form of salt in the fight strap and numerous stick marks.

While I don't believe an LOA makes something real or fake, (unless it's Lampson HA!) it has an LOA from Rich Ellis, a well known and respected hockey dealer. It also has a letter from Milt Byron, the GodFather of Hockey Game Worns. But what sold me on this jersey was the last person to sign off on it. Barry Meisel. A MeiGray documented Pavel Bure jersey is worth to me, ten times as much as one without his ok. I'd trust MeiGray more than my two lying eyes :p

Between my Sami Salo Detroit Vipers and this Bure shirt, my collection has had a better year so far in 2009 than the last decade combined! Here are the pics of my new baby. One last note, my fiance financed the purchase. I think she likes it as much as I do! (And if we sign a Prenup, I'm keepin it dammit! :D)

Huge pick up this month for me, and want to thank all those that helped me put together this puzzle of a jersey. Would not have known what I had without those that offered up their expertise.

Picked up a Deivi Cruz spring training jersey from his rookie year 1997. Jersey has tagging from 93, but the writing on the tag stood for Spring Training jersey and the equipment managers initials. Cruz only wore 37 in 97 and the letters measure out to be from 97 due to their size and not an earlier jersey. Look for Cruz items for ages, and now I stumble upon 3 in 2 weeks!

While were on the subject of tribe pick ups.... I'll add what I recently picked up at the tribe team shop thanks to Matt again for the heads up on the 50% off sale. First is a Travis Hafner game used hat (my first hat ever). The second is a Franklin Gutierrez game used batting practice/ spring training hat. Third is a Franklin Gutierrez game used cool base jersey from the 08 season. Lastly is a Rafael Perez game used throwback jersey that is mlb authenticated and autographed, jersey was used on june 2 2007, and i would apprecciate any photomatching help on that one it should be easy but i can't find any pics of perez who did pitch 2.2 innings.

1980-1983 Willie McGee gamer - If I outbid you, sorry...but this is something I have been looking for since I started collecting. Jeff Scott says it probably came from one of Willie's first orders as a professional in 1980 - 18 bats over 2 orders.

This bat is even cooler in that it has 51 on both ends and red paint on the barrell (rack marks) like other Cards bats I have owned from the era - the old Busch bat box was painted red. Unless he wore 51 in the minors at either AAA Louisville or Nashville, there is a good chance he used this bat in the bigs his rookie season - even if not, still one of the earliest McGee bats I have ever seen. Thanks Mr. Scott for the info.

I bid on this in hopes it was just an early McGee bat - and got more than I bargained for...One of my better pickups. Oh yeah - HAMMERED.

Tsuyoshi Shinjo Old Hickory game used NPBL Bat( I was told by Old Hickory here ordered this style of bat from the start of the 2004 season) The bat shoes light use.
Norihiro Nakamura Game used Nike bat. The bat originated in the USA, so my guess is the bat was used by him during the 2004 spring training. He did not play in the MLB till the 2005 season.

Managed to get the pants that Wilson Betemit wore in the last game of the 08 season at Fenway to go with my jersey from that game. Put together I think they look great! (the cleats and bat are from the 08 season too) The pants are filthy and at the back have had lots of repairs done to them. The dirt from the jersey continues straight on to the pants!

And thanks to Brad at Shafran Collectibles I was able to pick up these two awesome helmets. A Betemit Game Used (Left Ear Flap) and the GU helmet from Juan Miranda's debut at the Stadium in 08. I love the blue paint chips along the Betemit helmet from where he racked them in between AB's. These photos are the closest I could find to photomatching them. The 4 of the 14 on the back of the Betemit is slightly raised and was trying to find something to match that but all I could find was a front view.

The Oilers helmet is a rare “Protective Products” helmet.
The 49ers helmet is a Riddell Kra-Lite II;
The Raiders is a Wilson helmet; and finally,
The Redskins is an old Riddell helmet that was reconditioned. The seller would not say who did the work but the workmanship is just awesome.

Nameplate removed or no evidence of removal? 10 years ago, I remember seeing these everywhere with clean backs. Pro cut with patches. Looked perfect except the nameplate area was clean as a whistle and we both know CU has used NOB since the late 70s for all jerseys except the Centennial throwbacks.

Sorry for a "rookie" question ... but I have always wondered what the black band on the left sleeve of Yankees jerseys represents.


The black armband represents the passing of a former Yankee or someone within the Yankee organization. In 2008 in was in honor of Bobby Murcer.

I just picked up four (4) Suspension helmets.

The Oilers helmet is a rare “Protective Products” helmet.
The 49ers helmet is a Riddell Kra-Lite II;
The Raiders is a Wilson helmet; and finally,
The Redskins is an old Riddell helmet that was reconditioned. The seller would not say who did the work but the workmanship is just awesome.

Some really nice lids there Jim. About that Raiders helmet facemask, I'm assuming, was made by Wilson to resemble a Riddell BD-9? What's the date code on the helmet?

Just picked up this 2008 Lastings Milledge game used bat from ebay seller Megmuffins.

I couldnt recall Milledge using a bat with a taped handle but then found these pics. Seems that he tried the taped handle idea around late May 2008. Nice style match.

2007/2008 Buffalo Bisons Game Worn Jason Stanford Jersey. Nameplate removed and PREPARED for Tony Sipp, who never got the call to AAA. Not technically a gamer from a former Clemson player, but for under $60 shipped, I couldn't pass it up.
