Just wanted to point out an item which is getting a lot of attention on ebay from a seller who has some interesting items.

Being sold by tomlandryfan

It's a Joe Namath game used Jets jersey. With a day and a half left it's at $3434.01 with 15 bids.

Here's the description
THIS IS A JOE NAMATH NEW YORK JETS GAME USED HOME JERSEY. THIS JERSEY WAS WORN AT SHEA STADIUM DURING THE EARLY 70'S. IT IS A HEAVY DURENE STYLE JERSEY. IT HAS THE NUMBERS SEWN ON AND NAME SEWN ON A NAMEPLATE. I HAD A LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY WRITTEN BY FOOTBALL EXPERT LOUIS LAMPSON. LOUIS WROTE THIS LETTER ON SEPTEMBER 30TH 2000 WHEN I SHOWED IT TO HIM AT A NATIONAL SPORTS CONVENTION. THE JERSEY SHOWS GAME USE WHICH INCLUDES STAINS ON THE SLEEVES. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE JETS COLLECTORS PIECE. PLEASE LOOK AT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE VINTAGE FOOTBALL I AM LISTING OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

Seller is also offering a Sayers jersey and Johnny Unitas. The wording in those items suggests seller doesn't have authenticator proof that those were game worn jerseys.

I would thoughts from other collector's on all three jerseys. Any help out there?

From the photos, the Unitas, Namath, and Sayers all look good. All tagging is consistent with the era and team. Without holding the shirts in your hand, evidence of number changes and wear (or contrived wear) are impossible to confirm. With the influx of eBay sellers playing dumb (Ripken, Carlton, Munson knits from past weeks) these FB jerseys may seem too good to be true. If these are real, needless to say, they are Canton-worthy.

If I were interested in any of these jerseys, I would ask some questions about any possible alterations, number changes, etc. I would ask the seller to measure the size of each jersey, to determine if they correspond to not just the tagging, but to the sizes of other known exemplars. Regarding the Unitas jersey, I will say that a size 50 is larger than other Unitas jerseys sold at auctions.

The seller states at least 2 of the jerseys (Sayers, Unitas) were purchased years ago from the Sports Alley, Whittier, Ca. Anyone have previous dealings w/them, & if so, your thoughts? It seems I purchased an E. Murray O's batting helmet from them mid-to late 1980s, but would have to check my receipts. No opinion either way as to these jerseys, but the characteristics are interesting.

I have sent this guy questions about the modifications and he refuses to answer. The lower tag on the Namath has no size on it. What few Sand Knit jerseys I have, from this era, have a size. The jerseys with a flag have a different tag. It appears to be cut off on the sleeves and bottom. The only real one I have seen is in the Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa and it has a cut off tail and sleeves. There are some differences in the modifications and tagging.

Hey everyone-

Not sure what the significance of this is, if any, but tomlandryfan the seller of these rare jerseys on ebay is not listed as "no longer a registered user"

Sometimes that can happen for an innocent reason like unpaid ebay charges, so it does not necessarily mean wrongdoing.

Since this was a seller of high end merchandise, I just wanted people to know. Here's the link:
