Why is this so valued?

It's the old 1/X number. I'm amazed how many collectors pay big money (mostly for cards) simply because it's numbered. The folks at UDA must fall asleep laughing.

Its got nothing to do with HOW its numbered. Its that this piece is now the Rarest McFarlane piece ever made with only 3 of them being produced. The former piece was a hockey variant limited to 12 or 13 and sold for over 8k as well.

They made 5, 2 of which are staying in McFarlane's archives.

The 3 remaining were available to the collecting public by being shipped anonomously to lucky buyers who, like this seller on ebay, will discover them in the case they bought from McFarlane.

The only diff is the blue hat. But a $10 version and some blue paint and you're good to go. Crazy.

I think 5 were made with the blue hat and 2 were kept by McFarlane, so 2 left out there to find. Oy, I could buy a lot of REAL baseball stuff with that money!

Well since authentic autographed Babe Ruth Baseballs can be found around this price (Not perfect examples but well worn authentics) It makes sense.

NOT

WTF is wrong with people? This holds no value for the future. There are no great stories about this item and no nostalgic sentiments.

Then again, buying used clothing seems retarded to some people so.....

My bad.

Yeah, that's totally different than, say, something that is numbered to only 3 pieces.

Ain't that kinda mean. Because other collectors could say the same thing about us buying bats and jersey's. If that's what they like to collect then let them.

if you go over to spawn.com you will see the kind of people that would pay that much for it.

That's officially the most retarded thing I've seen in quite some time.
