Team,
In the new Sotheby's SCP Auction they have listed a game used 1973 green Oakland A's Reggie Jackson jersey. They list the jersey as "all original" lettering and number. Also at the end of the listing they mention it comes with a LOA from MEARS and have question marks behind MEARS.
I emailed Troy at MEARS and advised him of the SCP Auction and that the lettering in "JACKSON" is not the correct font for A's jerseys 1972 to 1976. This is the very exact same style of incorrect font that was on a 1974 white Reggie Jackson that was listed in a recent Mastronet Auction. This white Reggie A's jersey was also accompanied with a LOA from MEARS. When that auction was posted I notified Troy and he stated that Dave Bushing was in Chicago and would stop over to look at the jersey. Troy emailed me back within three days and stated Dave agreed with my assessment and reduced the MEARS number by two.
I will update this thread when Troy gets back to me. I am not pointing any fingers here and saying any auction house or MEARS is out to rip someone off. That is not the case. I just want MEARS to agree or disagree with my assessment.
I have dealt with Troy at MEARS and SCP Auctions. They have both been very, very professional in the past and I am sure both organizations just want to get this right. I will inform SCP that I have contacted Troy and fill them in on my assessment.
Stay tuned.
