From the tagging, I date this jersey from the late 70s to the very early 80s. The '76 Olympic team wore a different style. The '80 team boycotted the games, but did have Trials and preliminary games against "warm up" teams.
The only team photo of the '80 team, shows the team wearing warm-up jerseys. Could this be from the Pan-American games or other international competition? Also, during this era, the University of South Alabama wore jerseys with "SOUTH ALABAMA" on front (also, red, white and blue). In other years, So. Alabama has worn jerseys with "USA" on front. It is also very rare to see college or high school basketball jerseys with single digit uniform numbers during this era. Of course, single digit uniform numbers in international play is standard. Do the photos of my USA jersey trigger any memories? Could this jersey be from the 1980 team?

Can any Olympic Basketball fans offer some insight?

I have a photo of Ralph Sampson on the 1979 Pam Am games USA team. He's wearing a jersey that is blue but the same style as this one. I know very little about USA basketball teams, is it possible that they had home and road jerseys?

I forgot to ask, is there anything on the side panels or is it white all the way around?

No side panels. White nylon knit (not mesh). Number "7" on back, with no space for a NOB. Can you direct me to the Ralph photo? THANKS!
