was cruising different auction houses and came across this 1980 tug mcgraw world series glove which sold for $7,500++. apparently it was the glove mcgraw was wearing in game 6 when he struck out the final batter to clinch the series win. but is it?

a portion of the item description states:

"This is not just the ultimate Tug McGraw glove. This is an ultimate treasure of Phillies history representing the 1980 World Championship season. Every iconic image and film of Tug McGraw leaping for joy captures him with this glove: jumping, flying, exhibiting an exhilaration that radiates the joy of victory, and the the joy of baseball. If ever there was a glove that is imbued with the spirit of all that is exciting in baseball, this is that glove."

here's the glove:

now here are some photos of mcgraw during the 1980 world series including game 6 (top row) and some photos of him during the 1980 nlcs against the astros. note: photos "a" in the top row shows mcgraw on the mound in the 9th inning of game six (world series) and photo "b" shows mcgraw about to leave the bullpen to take the mound in the 9th.

now here are closeup shots of mcgraw's glove pictured above, in the same order (top row world series, bottom row ncls). seems to me that the rawlings tag on the wrist band is rather well worn and faded in these photos when compared to the auction glove. could it be that this is simply a matter of bad lighting and poor resolution in the game photos? or could it be that the auction glove is a mcgraw backup that he didn't wear in the 1980 postseason?

btw do the player's typically write their numbers on their gloves or is this done by an equipment guy? i ask because the number "45" on mcgraw's mets glove and on the auction glove clearly appear to have been written by different people...
