    REA results

Did anyone win any lots in the auction? I am amazed at the prices of many items. I am particularly impressed by the prices pinbacks are demanding. The Schmeltzer set for $70,000!!!
Did anyone happen to notice the item from a previous thread regarding Joe Ks ebay purchase. It was identical to lot #963. We guessed around $400-$600 and were pretty close.
My favorite lot in this auction however, was #785. What a way to start a trophy collection. We may see some of these on ebay soon.

Wow, I got outbid on everything....I'm beginning to think I'll just stick with Ebay and forget about these auctionhouse auctions....the price disparity is unreal.

    ebay:

    REA:

Huge difference. And these auctions were going on at pretty much the same time. Now I wish I had bid on the ebay item so I could consign it to next years REA.....oh well.

There was only one item I would have liked to have had in the Leland's auction -the Federal League baseball and it sold for $7,000+. Which is about 5,000 more than I had figured.

The prices payed don't make sense. There are just certain collectors who will pay whatever it takes to win an item. They have more money than time to shop. There is nothing wrong with this, but it makes the major auctions more of a spectator sport. More and more dealers are getting their inventory from ebay these days as well.

Ebay is gonna be about it for me for a while anyway as my wife and I have another child on the way and she quit her job to be a stay at home mom so a lot of my discretionary income went by the wayside for a while....Which is fine by me really.

I love ebay deals anyway....got this in the mail on Friday and was quite pleased to learn that this lot contained photos of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at bat....It's clearly marked on the back of both photos and I'm not sure why the seller didn't mention this.

        here's the Ruth photo:

            Re: REA results

These are all the items I was watching. I too noticed the difference between the Dean Play Suit on ebay and REA.

Lot 663 went for more than I would have expected. I guess belt balls are picking up in popularity.
Lot 665 seemed reasonable. These exact three same balls were offered in another auction in the past. I think it might have been Hunt, maybe Lelands, and I don’t recall what they went for then.
Lot 762 seemed to go at a reasonable price too.
Lot 773 went low IMO. I have seen this game go for more recently.

One other observation. I know very little about Game Used bats but I noticed that the bats that Bushing owned and consigned seemed to not do that well. Just a quick observation and maybe I am completely off on that. Any additional thoughts on that and why that might have been the case?

I, too, will be sticking with ebay. The prices here and at other auction houses are out of my league. With what I collect, the only time I seem to win anything is through Steve Verkman.

Funny: since I never win anything from a large catalog, even though I always watch, I was surprised to see I was winning a lot at 11pm at REA. When I told my wife I was still high bidder, her first question was "what's wrong with it that nobody has outbid you?" Sure enough, 10 minutes later i was outbid.

As for the Bushing bats, he seemed to have many that were off-brand or had something with them (stamped knob, for example) that turn people off.
