    onterrio smith nameplate question

I just picked up a Onterrio Smith jersey that shows game use and was sold as game used but I have been unable to find any pictures of him wearing a jersey with the nameplate "Smith" like the jersey I purchased all the pictures I find show him wearing "O Smith" If anyone can find a picture like the jersey I purchased I would be extremely grateful.
    Thanks so much

Nick....I think you may be in trouble with that jersey. I would say there is zero chance the nameplate is original. If thats true then that may lead to further questions about the shirt itself. I would need to see up close photos to make a more educated judgment.
ALWAYS buying PHOTO MATCHED Marcus Allen and Anfernee Hardaway jerseys. Also always buying Tennessee Volunteer jerseys and anything Tony Delk.

Getty shows only one 2003 rear shot and it has "O.Smith" on the NOB. 2004 the cut of the jerseys changed. The wide length of the NOB is a concern as well, they looked to be cropped closer. Raonall Smith was the other Smith on the roster that year, a backup LB that played sparingly in 7 games (2 tackles) and is shown as joining the team in 2002.

Accordingly, it would seem likely that two Smith''s were on the roster in 2003 and therefore the first initial was necessary.

You can see the different joints in the jersey from 2004 below.

On the plus side tagging and cut look the same or as close as you can tell, and he wasn't a big enough name to invest time in forging I wouldn't think.

I had made an offer to buy that jersey for a set price, including shipping. The seller sent me the PayPal invoice with $15 shipping tacked on.

Then, I started asking some additional questions and I was getting poor answers so I walked away over the $15. Now, I'm glad I did.
