Maple Bats

I'm watching the White Sox game and Hawk Harrelson mentions that the cost of a Maple bat has surged to $95.00 each. Last year they were only about $60.00. Is the recession causing bat companies to inflate the prices of bats or is this a maple wood shortage?

I'd love to hear BMH chime in on this.

might be because of all the crap they have to do to keep them allowed for use with the MLB.

Most companies are charging $85, I think SAM and us are the only two charging $95. With all the new rules for Maple in the game and the expense of the new insurance requirements and inspections by MLB's tech lab we decided $95 was a good starting point. If it's wrong, we can always go down.
