I have collected bats for awhile and am now looking to add some jerseys. Do to my naivete, can any one help me with the authenticity of the ebay jersey in the above link. Although it has a letter of provenance, it is not on letterhead and I do not know Jack McKeon's signature. I am also not sure about the tagging as one says 87 and one says 90. Clark was only with the Padres in 89 and 90. Thanks all for your help!

this doesn't have much to do with that particular padres shirt but the sizes of clark jerseys i've seen is a real surprise to me. the padres shirt is from 1990 and is a size 50. here's an '84 that's a size 46: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190305167508

in '84, everyone was wearing uniforms like they were painted on. you'd have to be an awfully big guy back then to have a size 46 fit tightly. on ebay there was another clark jersey from 1992 that i believe was a 52! you know who was taking a 52 in 1992? cecil "300 pounder" fielder. clark never struck me as a big guy..he was 6'2", 205. i'm not saying these jerseys aren't legit (in fact, they all seem to be consistent in their large sizing), i'm just saying these sizes are a real surprise for a guy like clark. clark was noticeably smaller than canseco and mcgwire and even they didn't wear a 50 in 1990, except for colder games).

Rudy,

I also own an early 1980s Clark gamer, and it's a size 46 too. It's worth noting that this one is not particularly as big as a current size 46.

Hi--

I can personally attest that this jersey came directly from "Trader Jack" McKeon, SD Padres General Manager from 1981 to 1990 and Manager 1988 to 1990. It was part of an acquisition of Padres jerseys from him directly approximately 2 or 3 months ago. Three game used Padres jerseys from the 1984 Padres N.L. Championship Team were also part of the acquisition and are hanging in my office right now.

Good Luck

Also--- regarding the question about the tagging in the original post ---- the photo of the Rawlings 1987 tag / Size 42 was mistakenly posted in the Jack Clark auction description. That is actually the tag for the 1987 Tim Flannery Padres jersey that was sourced at the same time and can be found in the seller's other auctions, along with the photo of the 1987 tag.

That Zane Burns "Clark" 84 jersey, on ebay, was definitely wrong, as it only had 84 as the year tag. Not his number and year. The tagging should have had 22 84. He was a size 46 back then. The Giants had jerseys as extras that had the year tag. I have a 1984 Giants home, with only an 84 tagging. It is a Gene Richards, and was picked up in late March of '84, after Wilson took the measurements of the players.

Thank you all for your input on this item. I did win the jersey today. It is a pleasure having this forum and the confidence it can provide when bidding for items.

Thanks again!
