    Oil Tempered Bat

What was the significance of stamping Oil Tempered Trademark on the barrels of bats? I've seen it next to the label for bats from 1933, but could never figure out why it was on the barrel on some bats.

What can the bat guys tell me?

    Re: Oil Tempered Bat

It was a process used by bat manufacturers to harden the wood. I know H&B did it, or at least labeled their bats at such, in 1933 and 1934. Their label read 'Powerized and Oil Tempered'. From 1935 on, they just used the term 'Powerized'. In bats from the 1920's, you'll see the term 'Bone Rubbed' used, again a process for hardening the wood.

Thanks, but what was the significance of stamping it on the barrel? I can't find anything that explains why.
