The flag tag in the collar did exist on some Russell BPs throughout the 1990s. The team stamp identifies it as part of a bulk purchase made several years ago by Sports Warehouse of Oregon back when Robb Wochnick (now rjwenterprisesinc on eBay) owned the company. I think you've got a winner here.

i'm not saying it's not good but it's a little strange that the jersey is tagged as a '99 and has a '96-99 style russell tag yet it also has the MLB logo on the back which first appeared in 2000.

then again, here's another oddity from henderson's guide.. a jersey without the MLB logo on the back yet it has a tag that russell first used in 2000:

Rudy:
I've seen numerous 1999 Russell and Majestic Indians BPs that were also worn in 2000 spring training at least. The MLB logo was used in 2000 spring training as well as the regular season. I actually own a 1999 Russell Indians BP with the MLB neck logo...it was Paul Assenmacher in 1999, but not sure who in 2000, as he was retired by then.

hey dave,

i'm not referring to when the jerseys were worn. wearing '99 shirts in 2000 ST makes sense. i'm simply confused by the actual production of them. the '99 shirts (shirts with '99 strip tags and '96-'99 style russell tags) were manufactured in 1999 yes? but in 1999, they weren't using the MLB logo. so how did it get on there? in spring training 2000 did cleveland "update" the 1999 jerseys by sewing the MLB logo on themselves?

the jerseys have some elements of 1999 and other elements of 2000 and i'm confused as to how that occurred on the russell production line. how did a shirt made by russell in 1999 manage to get the MLB logo on it?

They probably added the MLB logo to the back for S.T.. The Boston Red Sox re-used the 1999 jerseys during Spring Training of 2000. The 1999 All Star patch was on the sleeve and the team added the MLB logo to the back of the collar.

dave & ziggy:

well there you have it. interesting stuff. some teams individually added the MLB logo in 2000 to 1999 jerseys. you learn something new every day.
