Just curious to see who the player collectors are on this site. If anyone wants to contribute to the thread, post who you collect and how many game used items you have. If you have a website to share that would be even better. Thanks! :D

Right now I'm a player collector, but I'm hoping to expand a bit. haha

My collection is a bit odd considering being a Redskins fan (hence the username), but right now the only things that I have that are game used are from people who grew up locally. I've got tons and tons of gu/auto'd cards, but that's not for this forum. :)

Chris Snee (NY Giants OL) - 2 GU Jerseys, 1 Pair GU Gloves, 1 Pair GU Cleats & Ridiculous amounts of cards & autographed items
Isaiah Kacyvenski (Seahawks & Rams LB & Special Teams) - 1 pair GU Gloves & a few cards
Rich Thompson (AAA Baseball player) - Have some cards, auto'd cards & I'm working on getting one of his GU/Auto'd bats right now, hopefully I'll be able to work a deal soon!

Like I said, hopefully soon I'll be able to expand to some Redskins GU items!!

Good idea for a thread though!

I am a player collector and a team collector but somehow the addiction of this hobby keeps adding stuff outside the player/teams I collect. Plus the rarity of the guys I would like to collect more of limits my collection. I'd love to say "Shawn Camp, 8 jerseys and a glove" but they just haven't popped up yet. So here is my multiples from guys I collect. Sami is far and away my biggest and favorite collection. Good Topic.

Sami Salo

I collect Mark Brunell. I have 4 games used jerseys (2 are photo matched, another is from the Jags first ever Monday night game and is signed and inscribed as game used 9/22/97), one pair of game used and signed turf shoes, one pair of games used pants, belt and socks, one signed game issued Pro Bowl jersey. I'm always looking for more, but good stuff is hard to find and the nice examples I am after are few and far between.

While I do collect a few team things, PLAYER COLLECTOR all the way. Kingman has been my guy since childhood: 72 Giants R, 73 Giants H, 77 Mets R, 79 Cubs R, 80 Cubs H, 82 Mets H, 84 A's R, 85 A's Gold, 85 A's White, 89 Tropics Home and Road. Have about 25-30 bats, 3 fielding gloves, 3 helmets, hats from almost every club except CA and SD. Jackets from all teams except CA. So, very heavy into Kong.

Also have much smaller player collections of Jim Thome, Mark McGwire and now Adam Dunn. Have home jerseys of all 3 teams for Thome and 2 bats. No jerseys for Dunn or Mac yet.

It's a great passion for sure.

I was wondering what are the reasons behind collecting one imparticular player. I recently started collecting some david wright items bat, 2 pairs of cleats and a helmet so far. But it killed me in the wallet. Do you stick with one player because hes your favorite, because you like the team, because you like how he plays the game, perhaps because his stuff is cheap and always available, or is it another reason.

I have stuck with collecting Jim thru thick and thin because of his exceptional character, and perseverance through Tourette's and because not many folks collect him, and aside from his GU stuff already listed, I have scores of signed items and posters and nearly every card issued, even 1/1's. He's just the guy I picked out, and glad to have met him a couple of times too. An interesting man all-around.

I used to collect bats and jerseys from Bill Buckner. I had 7 jerseys and have since sold them all except for one. I still have 11 bats and don't plan to sell them. The whole "player collecting thing" sometimes has a strange feel to it. Most of my friends would, tongue in cheek, refer to me as a stalker due to to all the stuff I had. I'm much more comfortable and enjoy collecting team stuff instead of individual players.

I'd like to hear feedback from you guys that have multiple items from specific players. I'm sure you've been abused from your friends about it.

As I said in my original post, I'm more of a player collector right now because it's interesting to me to collect items of people who grew up locally.

It may not be quite so interesting if I were from So. Cal. or something like that where there's a hundred pro athletes. But, there are two from my high school and one from a high school just like 20 min from where I grew up, so there certainly aren't a ton of people to choose from!

As far as the whole "stalker" comment... my girlfriend calls me a stalker too because of all the Chris Snee items that I have. I personally think that in my situation (I actually know Chris. Not great friends or anything, but we know each other), that it's actually being less of a stalker than if I were to collect a ton of stuff from some random person that I watch on TV and have never met. Not to say that people who do that are stalkers, I collect a lot of Redskins cards of people who I've never met and will never meet. I'd also say that I don't think that any fellow collectors would call player collectors stalkers, because they get the enjoyment and the "thrill of the hunt" aspect to it too.

As far as I'm concerned, my collection of Snee items is never complete. There's always a new item that he's featured in (I recently bought both versions of the Giants Monopoly games) or something that I can get signed when I see him next.

Oh Yeah, I've heard it from friends and friends of friends, they step into my room of stuff and just go "Whoa, dude...obsess much???" But all of my friends tell me later how cool they think the collection is. It's the initial shock of seeing so much from one player that makes people think you're a little nuts. And, hey, we probably are! But we're not stalkers...:D

I think an actual stalker would eventually reach a point where he'd find out where their favorite player lives and be going through his garbage, and stuff like that.

At least that's what they told me when they issued the restraining order.

Seriously, I collect several players - in the case of three or four, pretty obsessively - and it's not always for the same reason. In Matty's case, it's because he always played the game right, always had his teammates' backs, and also because he has always been extraordinarily nice to me and my family.

I've only met Greg Colbrunn and David Dellucci a couple of times, but I always loved watching them play. The same with Danny Bautista. As for current players, I'm getting to be that way with Conor Jackson. I only met Bobby Witt one time, shortly after he retired, but we had such a nice chat that I became a huge fan - one of my favorite items in my collection is a dark green A's jersey of Bobby's from the mid-'90s that he signed for me that one time I got to speak with him.

Sometimes, it's actually kind of hard to explain. The first game-worn Diamondbacks jersey I ever owned was one from Ed Vosberg's brief stint with Arizona in '99. Then I saw one of his Puerto Rican Winter League jerseys in somebody's catalog, and just had to have it...then a different Winter League jersey on eBay, then, well, things kind of got out of hand, and now I have Vosberg jerseys from nine different teams. I tell myself that it's because he's an Arizona boy, from Tucson, and because he used to be a Diamondback, but the truth is probably something more along the lines of there being something unaccountably comforting to some part of my brain about buying an Ed Vosberg jersey - the way Mel Gibson's character in 'Conspiracy Theory' had to buy a copy of 'Catcher in the Rye' every time he got stressed.

I currently collect Cal Ripken Jr. and have the following

1 Game worn jersey
10 Game used bats
2 game used bases signed by Cal
1 Game used ball
3 pairs of game used batting gloves

I have recently started picking up a couple of items from current Orioles such as Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Nolan Reimold.

I live 50 miles North of Baltimore, huge Orioles fan, work in Baltimore currently and have followed the Birds since the late 70's. Ripken is and was the heart of this city. I loved his work ethic, dedication, and the fact that his stuff is so difficult to obtain generally helps matters. The problem, I am going broke trying to collect Ripken stuff and if you want his jersey's, forget about it they are either fake 98% of them anyway or so expensive that the average joe cannot afford one. That is why I am now branching out slightly to my favorite team.

Quite an impressive display, however are you saying that this is the greatest collection of any one athlete period anywhere? I know of several collectors for instance of Ripken memorabilia game used and non game used that reportedly number well over 1000 items. Not detracting from your collection but I also believe that the guy that was collecting Barry Bonds at one time that is a member here had hundreds and hundreds of pieces including several rooms in his house dedicated to Bonds items.

Again, not detracting from your collection it is very impressive and quite incredible, just not sure it is the largest in the entire world of one player.

I'm sure anyone can have rooms and rooms of memorbilia of any player, but were talking about the players own championship ringss! His first minor league championship with the 1983 medford A's and his first major league alcs championship with the oakland a's! How many players would sell those cherished items? Now lets talk the 40-40 collection, this should be in the HOF if not in j-zee's 40-40 clubs around the world on display, Jose created the club first!! Personnal photos like Jose relaxing in bed, you can't make this up!! His tattoo's another rare piece all autographed with LOC's--NO GUESSING HERE!! Some times quantity doesn't mean quality. I could buy a few more rooms full of items but it won't make my collection better because i added tons of "COOKIE CUTTER ITEMS" that are available to everyone. I really want people to enjoy what they collect but if someone challenges thay have the best Canseco collection around, they are in for some dissapointment.

I can't argue with you there. You are right on, since most players don't sell every last personal item like Jose has done, most people would be hard pressed to accumulate the collection that you have. Unless of course you are an AROD fan and want to buy his Jock

Brett, I'm surprised you are not more of a hoops collector.

Over the years, I have been a general baseball and basketball collector. My baseball collection focused mostly on Steve Carlton and Rickey Henderson, and, to a lesser degree, Cal Ripken Jr. and Pete Rose. I'm focusing more on hoops these days and consider myself a general collector of NBA/NCAA/Olympic basketball, but certainly have particular players upon whom I focus. The following is a list of items I have, recently had, or are on the way...

Dirk Nowitzki:
8 game worn jerseys (all photomatched, including 3 MVP year jerseys and 5 Playoff jerseys)

LeBron James:
7 pairs of game worn shoes (some photomatched, including 2 rookie pairs and 5 Playoff pairs)

Jason Kidd:
3 game worn jerseys (all photomatched, including 1 Playoff jersey)

Kobe Bryant:
5 pairs of game worn shoes (some photomatched, including 3 MVP pairs and his home opener shoes from this year)

I'd like to be more of a Tim Duncan, Kevin, Garnett, and Shaq collector, but their real items have eluded me (though I did finally obtain a photomatched Garnett T-Wolves jersey).

Actually, you will need about 30 AROD bats, 8 Jersey's, and a minimum of 3 AROD game used Jockstraps. Sorry for not being clear. ;)

I don't know why I have not gotten into more of the basketball stuff. I would say I am torn between basketball and baseball as my two favorite sports as I grew up with a fanatic of a baseball fan in my grandfather and just naturally gravitated toward hoops. I played much more basketball growing up in high school and local rec leagues during college etc. Anyway, I would love to pick up some basketball stuff and sometimes I am tempted to bid on some items. Sounds like you have an incredible collection of items especially the Dirk stuff. If you know where I can get a Robert Horry game worn Lakers jersey I would love to pick one of those up.

I could buy a few more rooms full of items but it won't make my collection better because i added tons of "COOKIE CUTTER ITEMS" that are available to everyone. I really want people to enjoy what they collect but if someone challenges thay have the best Canseco collection around, they are in for some dissapointment.

There is nothing wrong with the "cookie cutter items." One thing that was impressive about looking at Gary Cypres' Babe Ruth Collection was the game used stuff, autograph team baseball, wire photos, etc. I was walking around this display area and there was a father and son making the rounds at the same time. Cypres has a nice display case of "cookie cutter" babe ruth items. in the display there were books, stadium giveaways items, pins, plates  and other manufactured item. The father told his son to come over and check this out. There was a Babe Ruth watch that the father had in his collection. The son acknowledged that it was the same item in his fathers collection and kinda got excited. What will the kid remember from his trip the museum? I hope that watch.

I guess what I am getting at is that to me a collectible is only good as the memory or emotion that it illicits. A Canseco rookie card may be the best Canseco collectible out there to many Canseco fans just because it something they owned when they were a kid and were following Canseco.

Can you post pics of your photo matched Garnett? Does it have loose threads that match?

The Garnett sold to a private collector. I'll ask him to post pics, though I don't think he's a GUF reader. The jersey was matched based on numerous patch bumps, stitching imperfections, and loose threads. It was not a "possible match" or stylematch; it was a true photomatch.

I think the "tattoos" he is referring to are tattoo transfers. The paper they originally draw the design on and then transfer it to your body. I have seen those and they are pretty cool. No comment on the bed photos.

Thanks karamaxjoe, there are a few things on my site I have sold and there are a few I have added but haven't gotten around to putting on the site yet. I once had the bat that Jose used to hit the 3-run HR in the 1989 World Series Game 3 with. I think I have the best overall collection, but the best game jersey collection would have to go to a fellow member of GUU named Dan Albonetti from Toronto. I have sold him several.

Not to mention, did you ever bodyguard for Jose? Go out to restaurants, dance clubs?? How bout being on his book tours for JUICED and Vindicated?? I sold you many items to enhance your collection as well, the world series sambat you sold to pablo perez, the 1999 allstar jersey the NYY world series batting gloves from 2000. I guess you forgot how you aquired those items.

Your collection is great but please give some credit to who has the ultimate jose collection.

Slugger33, I was in no way bashing your collection(no pun intended), I was just pointing out the differnce in our collections, and how one can be better than others in some aspects. I think your collection probably takes the cake in unique Canseco items, but as far as game used Canseco items, I thinke mine is much more broad and complete. I don't know what going out with Canseco has to do with a game used collection of his, but that is all I was comparing, the game used items. This is a game used forum. You definitely have the best story to tell when it comes to Canseco,, but can you say you have a better game used jersey collection of Jose Canseco than Dan from Canada? Also, can you say you have a better game used Canseco bat or jersey collection than me? No. Once again, I was not putting down your collection, it is awesome! But, I don't believe you have the Ultimate Canseco Game used collection. I will leave yours as the Ultimate Unique Canseco collection.

Hey Todd, your right if you say game used jerseys. BUT YOU SAID IN EXACT WORDS----"I THINK I HAVE THE BEST OVERALL COLLECTION" BUT DAN IN CANADA WOULD HAVE THE BEST GAME JERSEY COLLECTION.---

I give you that you have the best game used jersey collection, BUT overall???? Come on now hands down anyone who is a fan of CANSECO would not take a bunch of game used jerseys over CHAMPIONSHIP MINOR AND MAJOR LEAGUE RINGS!! PERSONNAL TATTOO ORIGINAL PRINTS!! OH AND THE 40-40 COLLECTION THAT CAME RIGHT OFF HIS WALL!! hmmm THAT IS A TOUGH DECISION.

Lets get BERNIE GERNAY, (Jose's present agent) involved in this one!! He owns Jose's 40-40 ring that Jose had made for himself, gorgeous piece. Bernie has also said he never could believe the items I have collected.

Also MARIO/PRESIDENT OF WAXHEAVEN.COM SAID OF MY COLLECTION AND I QUOTE """""sick"""""""!!!!!!!!!

ANYWAY TODD, lets put a list together, photos of everything on our websites and have the game used universe members vote.

I also have the second largest baseball collection of Jose next to the cansecoking.com from beckett. He has contacted me before on aquiring about 10-20 cards he doesn't have. I recently sold him a 1/1 for about 180.00

MAN I SURE LOVE A CHALLENGE!! IT GETS THE BLOOD PUMPING!!

OK, I have admittedly hijacked a couple threads lately and apologized for it. The topic of this thread is, "How many collectors are player collectors?" It has gone off topic to childish playground bickering of, "Mine is better than yours is."

Maybe it's just me, but personally I could care less. Not even interested in looking at their sites now. Don't even care who has what. Generally, people here enjoy seeing who other members collect, seeing some of the items they've found, and sincerely congratulate each other on nice finds. This is the first time I've seen a hissy fit over, "Mine is better than yours is."

So how 'bout it, boys? Take it off this thread and start your own so we don't have to read it unless we want to.

On second thought, why don't you guys have an MMA Fight ala Jose Canseco. Maybe Jose would even be the special guest referee for this. The winner of this showdown gets the special guest referee uniform match worn by Jose to add to their collection.

Speaking of which, are either of guys attempting to obtain Jose's recent match worn MMA fight trunks for their collection?

For me I usually look for unique items and stick to one main player- Placido Polanco.

- 2 Jerseys both filthy, 1 jackie Robinson day jersey.
- 10 bats and counting, including a walk off hit bat
- 1 batting helmet
- 1 pair signed batting gloves
- 1 game used base signed
- 1 alcs signed used champagne bottle
- multiple game used balls from milstone/meaningful games
- 6 locker tags need a cardinals or phillies one
- too many autographed items to count

Everything is Tigers. Looking to add some Phillies and Cardinals things in the future. Also would die for a fielders glove one day.
