Where can I find out typical characteristics of bats?

like how much pine tar, where it is applied, whether there is tape or mota, if there is heavy cleat marks, etc.

just curious if there is a website that has all of that.

    thanks in advance

I there a particular players use your looking for?

I don't know if there is an actual website for all players although there might be.

But I would imagine it would be hard to document every players characteristic because players can switch up so many times.

    For example Robinson Cano
    First he would use nothing
Then he started using mota stick
Then he started using Pine tar
The he started wrapping the handle with Black tape
Then he started using white tape doing the (sheff taped handle and around the knob)
Then back to the black tape around the handle

And I am sure there is a lot more

So if there is a particular player your looking for you best bet would be to ask for that particular players use. I am sure there is a member on the forum that can help you. As a lot of us will follow certain players characteristics.

i am not a bat expect and learn my information by looking at other alex rodriguez bats that were up for sale. i also write down what year such characteristics were part of arod habit. for example mota stick wasnt applied all year by arod. also another good things is to look at photos of the player swinging a bat. another thing is watching games and seeing habits while the player is hitting. what can be seen while at an at bat is invaluable (ie. banging bat with the bottom of cleats). takes some individual effort to get the information but you will be more confident when making your purchase if you do this on your own.

Here are some websites which contains player characteristics of particular players.

        www.vintagebats.com

        (Andy Benish)

        www.batreference.com

        (Jim Caravello's blog)

        (our own Jeff Scott)

There may be others which other members will know about however I don't think there a website which attempts to store that info for the entire universe of players.

If you have a question about any particular player as you can see by the responses you got already there are plenty of folks on this forum who have specific knowledge regarding specific players.

thanks for the quick responses guys. well, one thing I was curious about was what players don't use any tar or mota at all? So basically, do you guys know of any players that either have nothing or tape? I think Griffey only uses tape and it appears as though Prince fielder only uses tape. Is there anymore on that list that only use tape? Are there any players that use nothing but batting gloves on wood?

Yea I know of some guys that don't use gloves....I am looking for players that don't use tar or mota. Gloves or no gloves, tape or no tape is fine, I'm just curious what players use no tar or mota.
