    More Bat Order Record Questions

Hi, I have a question regarding bat order records for more recent stars. In particular, Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. Craig has only used LS bats since his rookie year of 1988. Bagwell has used other brands, but has consistently used LS bats since late in his Rookie of 1991. Is it possible to find bat order records of these two guys? I do have Astros team receipt records since 2002, but I think I have found inconsistencies in quantity and ship/receive date data missing. I contacts LS and they said they no longer give those out. Thanks!

Re: More Bat Order Record Questions

      Hi Chris --

Here are the H & B records through August, 1997 for Bagwell and Biggio:

      Jeff Bagwell 1986-89 labeling period:
      C243 : 33 inches / 31 ounces (3 bats) and 33.5 / 31 (3 bats)
      C243C: 33 inches / 31 ounces (3 ) and 33.5 / 31 (3)
      R206: 33.5 inches / 32 ounces (6)
      R206C: 33.5 inches / 32 ounces (6)

Note: The customer for the above bats was listed as 'Baseball Miscellaneous."

      Bagwell 1990 labeling period :
      R206: 33 inches / 32 ounces (24) and 33.5 inches / 32 ounces (12)

      Bagwell 1991-1997 labeling period:
      R206; 33 inches / 32 ounces (48)
      C271C: 33 inches / 32 ounces (12)

Note: All of the above listed bats had no finish. 95 % of the subsequent bats listed had a black finish.

      A124: 33 inches / 32 ounces (57)
      I13: 33 inches / 32 ounces (111) and 34.5 / 32 (6)
      I13L: 33 inches / 32 ounces (150) and 33 / 33 (72)
      B360: 33 inches / 32 ounces (66)
      G162L:33 inches /33 ounces (114) and 34 / 33 (18) and 34.5 / 33 (16)

      Craig Biggio 1986-89 labeling period:
      H176: 34 / 31 (21 bats) and 34 / 32 (18)
      D143: 34 / 32 (12)
      B348: 34 / 32 (75)
      M216: 34 / 32 (15)

      Biggio 1990 labeling period:
      B348 34 / 32 (60)
      H176: 34 / 32 (12)

      Biggio 1991-97 labeling period;
      H176: 34 / 32 (507) and 34 / 32,5 (141) and 34 / 33 (46)
      D143: 34 / 32 (6)

Unless otherwise noted, these records for both Bagwell and Biggio only contain orders sent to the Major League team (Bagwell - Boston and Houston / Biggio - Houston) that were ordered with specific length and weight specifications. They do not include orders sent to other destinations (K's Merchandise, Jobber's promotions, 'Baseball Promotions,' 'Baseball Miscellaneous.' etc. or to the Major League team with no weight specifications.

Good Luck in future collecting. Hopefully someone will add the records from August 1997 to the present. Feel free to Email me directly with questions on a specific bat manufactured during the above labeling periods.

Thank you very much for your help! I actually thought the numbers would have been higher for both players.

        Thanks,

Re: More Bat Order Record Questions

          Brian or Mike,

Unfortunately, I lost my hard drive on my computer a few months ago and lost some annual order quantity data Brian sent me for Biggio bats outside of the records you had. Most importantly, I am trying to understand annual order quantity with regard to trends I see in quantity of bats that have made it to the open market. Any updates on post-1997 records as listed below?

Also, do you think the GUU site will offer bat records for newly inducted HOFers as some of the stars of the 1990s and 2000s start making the Hall?

          Thanks in advance!
