I posted here previously about my thrift store finds: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showpost.php?p=138312&postcount=7
Since finding the minor league jerseys, I've been searching thrift stores a bit more. Since I found a couple of other interesting jerseys on other occasions I wanted to see if I could continue my collection with very limited funds.

My finds since then have not been that inspiring. I found a South Alabama basketball warm-up (not a noteworthy player, not that many have been) but I left a couple South Alabama items because I had no way to identify the player. I also got three Senior Bowl sideline jackets (the same ones distributed to the players, although since I found three different ones at one location I have to assume they belonged to a employee). Obviously the jackets were not game used and I'm not sure if they even count as event used, but they certainly were never available to the general public. I really regret not getting a couple of generic Senior Bowl practice jerseys (ironically the heavy stains deterred me at the time) because I might have the start of a Senior Bowl collection.

Yesterday I saw a ABCD (http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showpost.php?p=138312&postcount=7) camp jersey. It interested me because it had more craftsmanship than a run of the mill practice jersey and the fact that the number was 105. I just wasn't sure of the exact nature of the camp so I didn't buy it. I now know that it was a Reebok sponsored camp that invited 200 of the top high school players (not just seniors). The featured players that year were OJ Mayo (#104.... ) and Greg Oden. Obviously if it was #104 instead of 105 it would be something special. As it is, I think it's Johnnie Lett, a backup for Auburn. This is a rare and unique jersey, but does that in and of itself make it collectible?

I also left a 2007 Dr. Pepper SEC Championship jacket because it looked a bit worn and I wasn't sure how many they made or if it was publically available. Anyway, my question is do I run back to the thrift store and pick up the ABCD jersey? Or, is it (like my South Alabama warm-up and Senior Bowl jackets) just crap I'm accumulating that no one else would want? I'm trying to figure out at what point I decide it isn't worth owning. I don't have high standards but I was wondering what some of you more astute collectors might think. I'll never be able to afford most of the stuff people on this forum have, but I'm really curious as to what people consider collectible and at what point it becomes junk.

Thanks!

I say if you are getting it cheap and you like it, how can you lose? You can probably get your money, and maybe a little more, out of it later if you need/want to.

What? No Faulkner St. gear? :)

I lived in Daphne, AL many moons ago and went to school while I was there. On a few occasions I've actually searched eBay for the aforementioned and South Alabama stuff...just to see if there was anything out there.

it seems as though people like your stuff, try to buy stuff that you like and interest you. if you are concerned about getting rid of these at a later date, then buy only names of player and teams that people recognize and collect. maybe look on ebay and see if anything similar has sold on ebay. have fun.

Well, some of my other stuff were pretty awesome finds but stuff like a ABCD jersey (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/basketball/ncaa/uploaded_images/blogcarac-709188.jpg)? I can't find any trace of a jersey online (doesn't help that they did it in New Jersey). I'd imagine that a Oden or Mayo would be worth quite a bit but a guy playing backup for Auburn? Some of the stuff gets obscure enough that no one even knows to look for it. On the other hand, if I want to buy a ABCD jersey this would be my only chance... I suppose I'll get it.

You do make a perfect point. My niece got a scholarship to the Faulkner St. softball team. While it might be cool for her to have, I have no interest in her sweaty jersey. So, is it cool that I have a
Ronald Douglas (http://www.usajaguars.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=38473&SPID=3258&DB_OEM_ID=8300&ATCLID=1212978&Q_SEASON=2007) warm-up? Or is it just kind of gross I have some big dude's sweat stained jacket? If it was the University of Alabama I (and a lot of other people) would be enthusiastic, but South? USA is D1 but the void between them and a SEC team is massive. I did leave a souvenir jersey autographed by a couple Tennessee players though, I had no interest in that.

I suppose it is entirely up to me to draw the line but I imagine I'll end up with some stuff I think is cool... and no one else does.

That is what makes thrifting fun. Second hand stores are like a box of chocolates...

Awesome jersey... I suppose I'd go for any major sport D1 gamer I stumbled across but eye appeal matters and I think that looks pretty sweet.

I picked up the ABCD jersey today, if nothing else it's unique. I had to reply to this topic because I thought today's find was a bit ironic. I found a South Alabama baseball jersey. I don't have a picture yet and it's maddening how many different baseball jerseys USA has used (they have three distinctly different styles for the front; USA logo, "South" and "Jaguars"). It's #2 and a adult small (smallest size the company makes) so I'm almost certain it belonged to Clint Reynolds (https://admin.xosn.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8300&ATCLID=298287), who is the smallest USA player. However, I can't figure out if it's for BP, game used or what. It's vest style and looks like these in the back (https://www.nmnathletics.com/pics11/400/BU/BUBDQLPSFUHZFXG.20090608202132.jpg), but the front just has "Jaguars" embroidered in this style font (http://www.thunderjags.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/the-first-usa-football-game-spring-game-offense-vs-defense_583-300x200.jpg). Now we just need someone with a USA football jersey to post here, heh...
