Hello Cardinal experts, I need some help with this one. Does this look like the real deal? Any opinions or thoughts would be helpful.

The St. Louis Cardinals had no notion of keeping Albert Pujols around for the 2001 season. Everyone figured he'd get more minor league seasoning before dressing for the parent club. But Spring Training provided a springboard for Pujols to showcase his talents. Every day, Pujols wowed the Cardinals to the point where they couldn't get rid of him. Pujols wore this [size] 48 jersey during his early days with the team in 2001. The verso outside collar holds an American flag which dates the jersey to the latter part of the season. All of the identifiers are sewn on in brilliant two-color tackle twill. "PUJOLS" is sewn directly to a nameplate on the back. Tail tagging includes a Rawlings swatch with two flag tags -- size and "Set 1 2001." Note: Jersey was worn at the first half of the season and flag patch was added by the team source after the completion of the 2001 season.

If this jersey was won during early 2001, why would someone want to add the flag patch after the season, if the jersey was not worn with the patch?

I am in no way saying this jersey is not game worn, but why would you want to alter the way the jersey was worn???

I did not read the description that closely until after the posting. Someone else also pointed that out. That is a very good question. If the jersey was not worn after Sept 11th, it makes no sense to add the flag patch after the season was over. One would not think that you would alter the jersey in any way after the season was finished.

They explain in the description about adding the tag later in the season. Also I would assume it is possible they thought he might be wearing this jersey the following season. If memory serves me correct they wore the flag patches in 2002 and possibly on. My memory is getting bad sheesh!!!

They went back to the regular MLB logo on the back in 2002.
