Thanks for pointing out the Kaz Matsui jersey. I have been looking to overpay for one of those for sometime. I am going to log in to ebay and run the bid up to $2000.00 because this guy stinks.

    Thanks

Re: Talk about over paying for items!!!!!

I have no idea what the first post in this thread is about since I cannot read items Jason posts, but who are we to determine when someone pays a high price for an item that it is overpaying?

eBay is great, because the public can set the final price, so if more than one person really wants an item, for any reason but none of our business, then sometimes items may go for a more reasonable price than what we consider current market to be.

What is wrong with that? Isn't it how the system was originally set up to work?

Then again, I guess you can fill the order cheaper with identical merchandise, right?

This is not even an ebay auction. Even if it were why would you "run the bid" up to $2,000.00?? Fraudfinder!!

If you ask me I think that jersey is too cheap. Julio wore the jersey when he broke a record that stood for like 80 years. A jersey like that should be in the hall of fame. Even if it went to $5000 I'd still think it's a cheap jersey

Maybe the record stood for 80 years but that is probably because everybody that was near that age was already in a retirement home in Scottsdale Arizona drinking their coffee through a straw. It is not a record of any significance however each person sees their own importance in various records so if it is important to you then that is all that matters.

There 's is not indication on this jersey that it was THE jersey. For that premium price I would have loved to see Julio sign it as the jersey he wore to hit a hr while on geritol!

I would assume the MLB letter has this indicated with the matching hologram.

Re: Talk about over paying for items!!!!!

                      Hey everyone,

My opinion is that when it comes to overpaying there really is no right answer. If buyer A has a larger budget for spending on an item than buyer B and it is an item from a player they really collect then I would think they would pay an awful lot for it. They would likely pay much more than buyer B because they are financially able to.

For example. I successfully bid on and won a 2005 Topps Finest White Framed Refractor 1/1 of Torii Hunter. I won it at just over $100. Did I overpay? Maybe, maybe not. It's a great card to have in my Hunter collection, but will I get my money back out of it? I don't know the answer to that and I'm not really worried about it because it isn't for sale. The point is that I was ok paying that price for it. Someone else might likely say that I overpaid.

In general, since an item is more or less worth what someone is willing to pay then who are we to decide? I would say it is up to the individual that is doing the bidding. If he or she is happy with the price they paid then they didn't overpay.

Just my two and a half cents

Re: Talk about over paying for items!!!!!

Bat Masters i understand what your saying but i dont thin that the feat of being the oldest home run hitter calls for $1500 for a jersey. I understand the point of Julio Franco maybe a favorite to someone but I would just say they must really love him to pay $1500.

See now you brought up the example of yout Tori Hunter card but your talking about Oranges and apples.

What you have is a card that may be appealing in 2 ways to collectors.
1 People who collect Tori Hunter items
2 People who collect rare baseball cards

Your item will gain value no matter what based on the fact it is a 1 of 1 there is no other like it in the world

They are going to be quite of few jerseys from this season of Julio Franco so its not exactly a 1 of 1 and if your going to get a jersey of his why not get one for cheaper from earlier in his career?????

Excellent point Tim. I have been known to pay well into the 5-figure price range for game used bats of vintage HOF icons. To most people in our society, this probably is a sign I should be instutionalized. Think about it, isn't it just a piece of wood that has been shaped into a bat...and one can buy a brand new bat at Wal-Mart for well below $10K. But, if I'm happy with the price, what should anyone else care?

I wonder if the bidders on the Franco jersey know that the hat he wore during this spectacular feat is on Steiners auction ????? They can try and put together the whole uniform
