My son and his Quintin Berry game used bat from last season. Quintin played with the Carolina Mudcats AA team least season and my son and he had many pre game chats. He is really a great guy and very very fan friendly, especially to the young ones.

I had Miguel sign my 1000 RBI bat and Helmet last night. Also, his eyes lit up when he saw my glove and confirmed it was his (since I couldnt find a pic of him wearing it!). Im pretty excited about the signing, as Dale, Bob, Rich and Chris already know! Also a special thanks to Steve for all his help with my 1000 RBI bat.. Here are some pics of my stuff and a high five to he dished out to my little girl!! :D

Picked up a few bats which I think are pretty cool...the top is a Willie Horton, dated to 1980, his last season in the big leagues. The middle is a Kirk Gibson, knob dated to 1984, which I thought was pretty rare to get an 84 gibby!! Finally, the last one, Magglio Ordonez, has a knob date of 10/3/12, his last season & made for the post season!!

Yes, Marc's prices have been climbing quite a bit the last year or so and the triple crown items are ridiculous. We can only imagine where they'll go if they win the world series.

but today's collectors are too fixed on MLB stickers, specific games, how much dirt is left / don't wash it, photo matched 1 gamers.,........ and then there's the Modern Day NHL "dealer Monopoly" priced jersey's " with retail value" that is total insanity.

I agree. I used to pick up an item or two here and there from Tigers Authentics. Now, with the price jumps, I'm looking at the emails, gasping in shock, and protecting my pocketbook. :p I can only imagine how it must feel for die-hard Tigers' fans, the people who live and die with the team and for whom game-used items from Tigers Authentics are a necessity. :eek:

I cant even collect Alex Avila items anymore... $300 can be used to purchase a possible hall of fame calibur player, or constant mvp condidate/all star. Alex avila should be priced in the $100-$150 range which I think is still a bit much. Best bet is to wait with email items.

I don't think the problem is Tigers hiking up there price, I think it's the few guys ( I'm not calling them collectors as its the causal fan with a lot of money or dealers who figures there is money to be made off a poor sap, that buys these over priced item.) out there willing to pay it. back in the 80's knit gamers cost under $100, for most everyone! Flannels twice that price often.

But the supply came from clubhouse guys wired into entreprenuers who ran ads in SCD and used mailing lists. Wow, some great stuff reasonably priced.
Now, the teams smell green, cut out the businessman/collector, and are indeed robbing us-- you- now.

Don't buy, period. Go collect minor league jerseys, chase those clubhouse guys, equipment guys in your city or town. Maybe there's a Madison Bumgarner in there.

I have two Tiger gamers-- both coaches- one Billy Consolo, bp, tagged 91 the other Johnny Sain, tagged 88 when he was hired to help after 87 WS year.
Sain is home with the classic D, a beauty from a great guy. Both cost $150 total 20 years ago. Not players, but beautiful Tiger game jerseys.

I wouldn't buy or sell right now (unless you want to sell me something for cheap:)) unless you can find an item for a reasonable price (to buy) which is unlikely, or you can find a sucker -- oops, I mean person -- to sell to for a high price.

Me personally, I am holding on to all my Cabrera stuff because he is far from done accumulating stats, milestones, records, etc. and eventually a plaque in Cooperstown.

I've had positive experiences with Marc. I've had four or five dealings with him and all have been great. I agree his prices are high but he's given me discounts when purchasing multiple items. I've had good luck on him both returning my emails and voicemails. But I have had to hound him a time or two. That stinks your experiences haven't been the same. Guess I've been lucky so far...

With the average of 6-9 purchases annually with Marc, I have not had one bad experience. Been buying stuff for about four years straight.

Sometime he is just plain busy - but he always call and email and so forth.

I've worked in sports my entire career (20 years) so I get “busy” but unfortunatelythere were no more home games after last Sunday. The frustrating part, as youfellow collectors know, all jerseys are not the same to us. We're not orderinggeneric widgets where if you don't get widget A, you can get widget B and itdoesn't matter. I e-mailed him last Sunday trying to order a particular jersey,and then followed that up with another stating that if my first choice wasn’tavailable I'd be interested in two other players. More than 24 hours later hedoes reply that my first choice was “SOLD” and never acknowledged my otherrequest. On Wednesday his updated list comes out and my second choice was gonebut #3 was still available. I replied to his e-mail four minutes after he senthis AND called immediately and still haven't received a response. (I called andemailed numerous the rest of the week as well.) I’m sure he’s a nice guy but the complete lack of service is staggering.

I've heard the same complaint in the past with him. If things get bad enough, it may ruin his market for Tigers items.

Was used during Game 1 of a doubleheader vs the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs on August 21, 2012.

- Ramon Santiago Game #3 home jersey, he didn't play in the game but there are a few tobacco stains on the front.
- Danny Worth home batting helmet, pinch ran in one game but couldn't find anything close to be able to photo match. The shot from the dugout is still kind of cool.
(If anyone has MLBtv and could get a tight shot of him on first base I'd love to see it.)
- Delmon Young road cap, shows some dirt around the edges but again, noting that could be photo matched.

I didn't even notice that it was slightly smaller until now, I will take another look tonight. I had noticed that the name/number was set lower than the Trammell and others, but I found this photo from 93 that could be this jersey. I am patiently waiting on the high resolution file of this photo so I can make a definitive photo match. One of the other differences between the two jerseys is that the tagging on the Whitaker jersey is a 1992 carry over, where as the Trammell is of the 1993 period.

I haven't been very active collecting game used items lately. I do keep an eye out for good deals and things that fit my collecting themes. I noticed Kruk Cards was selling a number of Carlos Guillen game issued Seattle Mariners jerseys. Some of them were from his brief 2012 stint--I really doubt he used them for more than photo shoots. They did however have a couple from 2002-2003. I looked through all the pictures posted and found a couple that showed signs of use (i.e. wash wear, loose threads, etc.). Picked up another Carlos Guillen Mariners jersey (this time a 2002 Road jersey). Again, purchased from Kruk Cards as game issued, but shows a great amount of use. I feel very comfortable saying both of my Mariners gamers were used.

If anybody is interested in picking up one of the Guillen jerseys being sold by Kruk Cards, I would advise to stay away from the 2012 jerseys, as I believe those truly are game issued. The 2002 and 2003 jerseys seem to have legit use. I definitely cherry-picked the home and away jerseys I felt had the most use, but the others they still have listed do show signs of use in my opinion.

Now to find a Road Tigers Guillen and some other one-off jerseys from his Tigers career.

And I collect Nick Castellanos so this was one of the best days ever, very excited. I took this picture in my garage because the pine tar needed to try, so disregard the dirty floor :)

A few recent pickups....the batting helmet and Don Kelly BP jersey were acquired at TigerFest. The helmet came from the Foundation tent, there have been a number of #26's over the last 6-8 years, my best guess would be Mike Hessman in 2008. He only played in 12 games with just five on the road. Also added Carlos Guillen's JRD day jerseys from 2010. It is MLB authenticated and has a number of great dirt/grass stains. The final piece while mot game worn was too cool to pass up on eBay and will look great framed next to my Tiger jerseys.

Well, I added another Carlos Guillen jersey to my collection. This one came back to Michigan via Caracas, Venezuela. It is a 2005 Home Jersey with MLB Authentication pinpointing it to May 5, 2005. The Tigers lost that day to the Boston Red Sox, but Carlos Guillen did have a home run. There are a number of pictures on Getty Images from this particular game and I'm hoping to find a way to get them in high resolution, or some screenshots from the game.

I have to thank Mike Specht and Lon Lewis for the addition of this beauty into my collection. This jersey was recycled to the minors, as almost all of this era were, where the name and number were removed. It was agreed upon by Mike, Lon and myself that the original name outlined on the back was clearly JOHNSON and the number was clearly 20. With absolute certainty this was Howard Johnson's original jersey from 1984 (most likely 1985 as well), and Set 2 which was worn in the World Series, Lon worked his magic to return the jersey to its original form. Thanks again to Mike and Lon.

Picked up a few Torii Hunter items recently. He's an easy guy to collect because he is so fan friendly.

- "Fiesta Tigres" 8/3/2013 Jersey. Torii hit career homerun #309 in this game.

- 2013 ALCS broken bat. Broken in game 2, which now is remembered as the game Torii flipped over the wall in right field at Fenway. Great usage and grass still stuck in the tar.

Picked up a Dick McAuliffe 1971 set 1 game used road jersey a few years ago. It's the jewel of my collection. McAuliffe and Bill Freehan were my favorite players growing up. I found a couple pictures of Dick in a 71 road jersey (below), but it's very difficult to photo match. This jersey is an excellent compliment to my 1993, Set 2, jersey. What makes this pair even better, is that I have now been able to photo match the Set 2 jersey based upon the differences in where the name/number are affixed.

I can't explain why they are that way, but I have found another example that illustrates the same oddity. If you look at the Tracewski 93 set 1 jersey, the name/number placement is similar to the Whitaker 93 set 1 jersey. Again if you look at the Tracewski 93 set 2 jersey, the name/number placement is lower than the set 1 jersey, which is similar to the Whitaker 93 set 2 jersey. The commonality between the two examples seems to be the "Intera" fabric and being Set 2's.

Before making the claim that all 1993 Set 2 "Intera" jerseys jerseys have a lower name/number placement, there are 2 other points to consider.

1. I owned Larry Herndon's 1993 Set 2 jersey that was also an "Intera" fabric jersey, and the name/number placement was similar to the Set 1 Tracewski & Whitaker jerseys.

2. I own Alan Trammell's 1993 Set 2 jersey which is NOT an "Intera" jersey and has the strip tag similar to the Set 1 Tracewski & Whitaker jerseys.

So I have found other examples of the oddity, but I still do not believe I can explain why.

I picked up an MLB authenticated 2011 Miguel Cabrera SAM bat. With lots and lots of help from Rich, we were able to match it to Miggy's only walkoff homerun in 2011 on 9/3 and also to his homerun on 9/4. The bat was then broken on 9/5.


Used in every at bat from 8/29/2011 to 9/5/2011 - 8 games
Cabrera went 12 for 31 with this bat which is a .387 avg on his way to a batting title (.344)
2011 Hits # 153-164. Career Hits # 1553-1564
2011 RBIs # 84-93. Career RBIs # 963-972
4 of his league leading 48 doubles. Career # 333-336
2011 HRs 25-26. Career HRs 272-273

Just picked up one of my best items I own. A Justin Verlander Game Used Jersey from a win on April 12, 2012. I want to thank a fellow forum member Cody Barton with parting with it and being nothing but class. Also Ken Woltersdorf for helping me try to match it. Jersey was used for a complete game win vs KC. The cool thing is, the jersey was auctioned off as game used due to the equipment manager saying it was used, however, it was marked tea, issued. I knew the jersey was good due to lining up the patches I just couldnt match threads because I couldnt get close enough... I was lucky enough to photomatch it to a CBS sports image from the game in which I could zoom incredibly close. A prize piece of mine.

Max Scherzer Game Used Batting Helmet from his RBI Double on August 24 2013 against the Mets. First hit for Max since 2009 and a great game between All-Star Starting Pitchers. This was Max's favorite moment of the 2013 regular season.

Here is a more obscure Tiger Homerun Combo. Matt Tuiasosopo's last homerun ball and bat hit while a Tiger on July 27th 2013. Went to straightaway centerfield and bounced back out of the shrubs. Bat was broken on an RBI single 4 days later.

Jhonny Peraltas bat he cracked on his 6th inning RBI single in the ALCS game 1 which was the only run in a 1-0 Tigers victory. The ball is the actual single he hit in the 6th also. This also turned out to be Peraltas last RBI as a Tiger. This bat was also matched to Peraltas 3 run home run vs Oakland in the ALDS.

No it is not authenticated as a HR bat. I'm confident it is in fact the HR bat though. Other angles of the bat were matched including tar where his hands hold and of the knob. If the font looks different its only because it is hard to take a picture at the right angle to match the angle of the screenshot.

Thanks! It is also unique because the bat is branded for Matt Tuiasosopo who is no longer on the team. Here is another look at part of the match. The SAM BAT logo has an imperfection on it, almost looks like a circle on the "wing" of the bat.

I was going to post a Negro League jersey that I had just bought, but oh that's right, I contacted Marc while the game was playing telling him I was interested in one and he said he would let me know what he was going to do with them. Then he never let me know, and then saw them all listed on a Ebay now by one seller.

His response: "I sold them to Topps at an offer I couldn't refuse." Nope, not good enough for me. Topps then sold them to BERGIE'S SPORTS CARD DUGOUT, INC in IL??, because that's who's on Ebay selling them.

I was talking to some of the staff at DC and they were not happy at all with Martinez. He no showed saturday so they rescheduled him for sunday and he did it again. Twice they had to go tell a line of people he wasn't coming. I'm not saying Martinez doesn't have a good reason but I feel for the people who spent part of their weekend standing in line to go home disappointed.

I have added some significant items to my Lou Whitaker collection in the past week. All items in this group came directly from Lou's personal collection and were framed/displayed in his home (the glove was not on display).

These were the 3 jerseys that he wore during his final season in 1995, including the elusive Sunday home alternate jersey and pants that were only worn 1 game (Sunday, 5/7/95 vs BOS) before being abandoned by the team. The home jersey is tagged 1994 and is a carry over that was worn throughout 1995. The road jersey is tagged 1995 and was worn in his final game on October 1, 1995 in Baltimore (photo of that game below). Given the amount of wear on this jersey, he could have worn it for every road game that year. I believe the glove is from 2001 and is a PRO200-6.

I am hoping that I can get a couple of high resolution photos to conclusively photo match the jersey and helmet (I have his 1995 road helmet to match the jersey), which should be pretty easy to match give the wear and markings.

Sounds like you're not a fan of Prince's, or maybe it's just paying Prince's prices because of the contract he got. I don't think Miguel gets that Triple Crown without Prince's protection in the line-up. So the pitchers picked their poison and the rest is history. Prince is gone and Miguel isn't seeing the same pitches this year. And predictably, his numbers are down. Not a lot, but down none the less. The two together were the dynamic duo. If I were a big Detroit fan, I'd be unhappy about Prince's departure, even with the tough year he had last year. But hey, how would you feel if Avisail Garcia was mowing your lawn while you weren't home?

But I have to ask, you think "Best Wishes" is kind of lame? What better salutation could you get from a ballplayer?

Babe Ruth would grace certain signatures with "Sincerely". Lou Gehrig, "Yours truly" or "Cordially". That pretty much leaves those personalizations taken for the ages. I've seen "Best Wishes" on some super pieces from Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays, among others. Now Miguel and Prince too.

In collecting I've always found that when a player adds anything it's a step up from nothing at all. The personalization adds value to the piece when it's done in the players own hand. I kind of wish these jerseys weren't decked out in inscriptions because they will cost more now. But if I decide to bid again, should I win them, I'll be thrilled.
