Grey Flannel 1969/1970 Jerry Nyman-jose Ortiz Jersey

Current offering on the Grey Flannel "For Sale/New Items" section of their website:

"..jersey was made for Jerry Nyman in 1969, and used by Jose Ortiz in the 1970 season. The jersey shows good game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind".

Can a White Sox expert or another Forum reader comment on the following: Pitcher Jerry Nyman wore #49 in 1968 and 1969. Jose Ortiz wore #23 in 1969, #15 in 1970.

The offerd shirt is from 1969, and has NYMAN stitched in the collar. How can the jersey be offered as "..no alterations..." when Nyman did not wear #15, rather he wore #49 in 1969? Nyman never wore #15 in 1969 (Outfielder Bob Christian wore #15 in 1969). Likewise, the 1969 patch would have been removed from a 1969 jersey, allowing it to be worn the following season in 1970. As such, would one label this specific jersey be labeled as "no alterations" even though the patch was removed?

GF should change their terminology when describing this jersey. From what I can tell from the pictures, the jersey had a team change of the name and numbers. I doubt a collector made the changes since what would you have to gain from doing it. I have a Sox jersey from 1967 that has the same problems, but I have no fantasys that the jersey had no alterations. It's a team number and name change with the patch removed for the 1970 season and should be noted that way.

While the jersey is misdescribed (no alterations notation), it is not abnormal for the genre. The Chisox finished fifth in the A.L. West in 1969, and dead last in 1970. Given the revolving door of players coming and going, and the frugality of the Allyn family ownership, while 1969-70 White Sox flannels are not rare (by flannel standards), they ARE rare (by any standards) to truly have "no alterations". This is still a nice flannel, but, as Howard noted, it certainly doesn't qualify as an all-original piece.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind would spend $1500 on that jersey. If it's true my portfolio just went up.:rolleyes:

The same style of jersey is available on a certain large website at the moment. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge......;)
