One thing I noticed is the holes in the helmet. Heres a pic. Also the Riddell logo looks smaller on the ebay helmet. Plus one of the giveaways was this guy got it from someone in the Dolphins organization

The helmet Dan Marino is wearing in the 1994 photo is most like a Riddell WD-1 (maybe an AF-2) - the holes in the sides are where the padding is mounted to the shell. The rear bumper is longer (hard to see in that shot but it appears to be longer). Marino is known for wearing a WD-1 in the early 1980s (including the Super Bowl loss to the 49ers), swiching to a Rawlings in the middle 1980s, and going back to a WD-1 once Rawlings got out of helmet business.

The helmet in the auction is most likely a Riddell VSR-4 (it could be a VSR-1 or VSR-3). Marino did switch to a VSR-4 later in his career, but I don't think that happened until a couple of years later (and definitely by the time the team changed to their current uniform set in 1997).

Marino helmets have been discussed many times, here, one of the easiest to knock off, and thus one of the most frequently knocked off star lids. Plus, the Miami EM's swear none ever left their possession. So beware.

FYI - I couldn't see the ebay auction from work - the helmet in the photos is a Riddell VSR-1; I don't think Marino ever wore any of the earlier VSR models - he went from the WD-1 to the VSR-4.
