    Cal Ripken Windbreaker

    FORUM READERS-

As an avid Ripken collector, I immedietly had some interest in a "game worn" Ripken windbreaker offered on Ebay:

Can someone please help me understand how this can be stamped "PURCHASED FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS"???????? Interleague play had not started in 1996. The All Star game was in Philly in 1996.

When would someone with the Giants have access to a Ripken jacket in 1996?

Dick Dobbins first started the practice of stamping the giants jerseys with a black stamp, and later, Robb Wochnick did the same.

That's an interesting one. Even if the Giants stamp wasn't on there, isn't it a little strange that the writing on the Diamond Collection tag looks new, while the tag looks like it's ready to fall apart? Cal must've written it on there right before he sold it to the Giants souvenir store.

        Howard,

You're such a know-it-all. For your information, I've owned several Ripken windbreakers and they have all come from the Giants. The windbreaker material and the black marker writing always look new, while the tagging always look like it has been to Iraq and back. That's how Cal rolls.

By the way, don't even think about trying to outbid me on this item.

On a different note, do you have any of your Phillies Hall-of-Fame knits left, or did you sell them all?

That's a great response, Reid! By the way, shouldn't one of us contact the seller and find out about this?

This item is by the same seller. It was probably purchased from the Giants as well they just forgot to mention that. In fact, I bet it was a Giants batting helmet. Somebody stripped off the Giants logo, plastered an Orioles logo and a #8 on the back and there you go, a genuine Orioles Ripken batting practice helmet.

                Re: Cal Ripken Windbreaker

By the way Howard, they have a picture of Cal wearing the windbreaker on the listing. Based on that we know that this must be THE windbreaker and that would make it the real deal.

Is somebody emailing the seller and asking him to explain?

Brett - You may be on to something on that batting helmet. If you look where the "flash" is right above the middle of the Orioles logo it looks like the outline of a previous decal being there!!!

BTW, this is one of the funniest threads on here. Reid may end up the high bidder at $15!!!!

If I get it for $15, I will demand that Eric feature this auction in one of his "You coulda had it" threads.
