I was trying to pick mine and it's tuff! I got a lot of Reds bats I love: 1976 Bicentennial bats of Concepcion, Driessen, and Bench. 1970s Adirondack bats of Morgan, Perez, and Rose. A mid 80s Rose Mizuno black bat. I love my 2004 Jeff Kent Astros game 5 NLCS walk off HR bat too. But, I think if I could only keep one, it would be my Pete Rose 1975 R195 gamer that was graded a perfect PSA 10. It only could be from 1975 because it was first made and ordered by Rose in that season and it's a 73-75 model bat. Of course the Reds won the WS in 1975- in the greatest WS ever- and Rose was the MVP of that WS. What's your favorite and why and show us a picture.

Obviously a pretty loaded question and my answer probably changes all the time. Just earlier today I posted my newest pick-up from last night that I called a potential favorite right in the title of the thread!

But I think I most often go back to this 2001 Rawlings bat made on 4/04/01 and used by Manny during his first week or two with the Red Sox. I love the fact that this marks the start of his time in Boston, his transition of sorts from an innocent hitting machine in Cleveland to what became the aloof clown that Manny can oftentimes be today. He doesn't quite look the part of a Red Sox player, the WS rings are still years ahead, and this bat is one that he never went back to after his initial arrival in town. Manny's first time away from his "comfort" zone and no one is prepared for what's to come.

Bat is uncracked with nice use with double '24' markings and signed by Manny as "game used."

I was gonna list my first Pink of Ryan Garko, but I had to go with this one instead. Its a bat he used in the XM Futures Game and then signed following.

I love a Mariano bat. Interesting he would inscribe Game Used since he didn't use it in a game. This if anything would be a BP bat of his. He didn't have any AB's in 2005 reg season or post season. Or may have been used by another player but that would be ineteresting that he would inscribe game used if another player used it.

My favorite bat is a Cal Ripken Sr. "Block" letter bat with H&B markings from the late 1950's with gorgeous patina and a Hornsby style knob (early in his minor league career); Ripken Sr. signature model on top, but my fav is the Block letter Sr. bat on bottom

On 9/27/07, the Diamondbacks were in Pittsburgh. leading their division, but slumping. Micah Owings took the mound and not only shut out the Pirates 8-0, he went 4 for 5 at the plate, including three doubles. On the second double, he broke his bat in half, and this is the bat. The DBacks went on to win the division, and swept the Cubs in the first round of the playoffs. The game was a crucial turning point in the team's season, and was recently voted one of the fifty top events in the team's history. I really treasure this one.

I have to go with my 86-89 Robin Yount. Great use, faded # on knob. Just perfect. I also have a 90 Brett that ranks right with the Yount, but for some reason I can't find the pics.

Here is my favorite. A 1972 Pete Rose home jersey. The first baseball game I attended at Riverfront was in 1972. This also appears to be the same jersey that Rose was wearing in the last game of the 1972 NLCS where the Reds made a comeback win against the Pirates. Tough to tell if it is a photo match against the depicted card from the 1973 Topps set.

Good eye for the obvious. I spent 5 minutes looking at the barrel stampings, and I don't think the "Genuine" lines up perfectly with Albert's name.

If it is two different bats, I'm absolutely amazed at the ballmark placement!

What about the cupping. I forget who brought that up, but the acutal bat the player used clearly is a cupped bat, but the photo that the member provided of his bat appears to not be cupped. Can the owner of the bat shed light on this? I mean it simply could just be how he took the photo.

Albert Pujols signed and dated game used rookie bat, from the November 2001 ARF auction. La Russa signed COA. Bat was one of 15 delivered to Albert between August 22 and September 5, 2001. My winning bid was $1110.

Ya hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I have to agree with Rboitano, here.

The circles, which presumably are supposed to show the same marks on the two photos, more often than not show marks that are clearly different - marks that go one direction in one photo, and a completely different direction in the other, or are not even close to being similarly configured. Some of the circled marks are not even in the same place.

Who called this a photo match?

Definetly a match Bert, no doubt about it!

To the guys who can't see it......what are the odds that Tino Martinez would have two Albert Pujols C243 model bats with similar rack marks? I'm sure when Bert has the bat in his hands and holds the bat up in the exact angle of the game photos it looks ten times better than the photo match pics.

Congrat's Bert on your favorite GU bat.

Ok, you guys are going to laugh at this, but here is my latest favorite bat: A Bob Didier H&B Gamer from 73-75. No, you won't find this in the bat records section of the site. Didier was a journeyman catcher who played for the Braves and one year, 5 G - 14 AB - 1 H, for the 74 Red Sox. His significance to me is that he was one of 18 players who's Bat I needed to complete my run of Red Sox position player bats from 1960 to the present.

29296

This was advertized as a "Kiya Didier" bat and I was looking (make that looking for 15 years) for a Robert Didier bat. I checked Baseball Almanac for a nickname . . . none. Middle name? Daniel. I looked for significance of the word Kiya . . . . none. Other Didier major leaguers from that time? . . . none. I looked for minor leaguers with the name Didier, could find none. Totally stumped. Then I looked at the bat more closely and thought the "K" might be an "H" to read "Hiya." Punched that into google and after another hour of digging learned that in grade school Bob Didier's friends knew him by his nickname "Hiya."

I'd like to think that when he signed on with H&B he was paying tribute to his friends with his signature and reminding himself of what it was like to reach a childhood dream. OK that last part is the romantic in me.

I match my $40 Didier against your $15,000 Mantle (just kidding!):) :)

This is my favorite game used bat. A Bicentennial Willie Stargell that I picked up in a trade. Mike Specht was kind enough to let me know that Stargell ordered 30 of these bats during the '76 season in two different orders.

Stargell is also the greatest baseball player from my hometown and my old high school field is named after him.

Photomatched to a 3 Double Game that set the record for most 3 double games in a season since at least 1900 and to a 2 Homerun game, which all led to a POTW award. Micah Owings LS, from the 9/17/07 game in Pittsburgh, when he went 4 for 4 with three doubles (this bat was broken when he hit the second), and shut out the Pirates 8-0 on the mound. The Diamondbacks had been on a losing streak, and that performance revitalized the team and got them revved up for the final push to the playoffs that year.

One other little snipet related to this bat, that I just stumbled across in a web search that led me to this from an SI.com Tom Verducci blog from last year, Billy finished with 51... I don't think I had heard this list before, I knew it was rare, but thats an impressive group.

But there is another bright spot for the Royals that has received little attention: the breakout year for first baseman Billy Butler (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/7634). Remember, he's still only 23, and he needs just four more doubles for 50 on the season. Only seven players have ever hit 50 doubles at 23 or younger, and there is not a fluke in the club: Hank Greenberg, Enos Slaughter, Stan Musial, Alex Rodriguez (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/5275), Albert Pujols (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/6619), Grady Sizemore and Miguel Cabrera (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/7163).

Maybe #2 or #3, but don't have pictures of the others to post so I'll go with this one. Photomatched to a 3 Double Game that set the record for most 3 double games in a season since at least 1900 and to a 2 Homerun game, which all led to a POTW award. Includes double #45 on the season, his 50th double bat and cleats are in the Royals HOF collection.

Great bats everyone - Tom, welcome aboard!

Here is my favorite, and most recent bat purchase

1977-79 R195 Pete Rose

At first, the portrait really bugged me. Great work, no question, but I have always gone back and forth about having autos on a bat, let alone a portrait! The portrait btw, looks much "softer" in person - plus, it is nicely done.
In any event, the bat itself is fantastic - tons of use with several nice seam marks, ball marks, rack marks, and has the typical Rose barrel cleaning. Absolutely love the bat ... and the portrait is actually starting to grow on me. :D

Now I am looking for a Hornsby finish Rose as well as a blonde Mizuno.

Out of all my game bats I would have to say my Mike Blowers game bat is my favorite. My reason, it was my first game bat and it was given to me by my dad. Now a few years have past and I'm at 70+ bats.

Always enjoy these threads, so I went through my stuff and picked my top 4 favorites. I know it is cheating, but have them in order with my Griffey Jr uncracked bat still coming in #1 on my list.

WOW! This is a very tough question!

Not my most valuable gamer, but I'd probably have to say that my favorite game used bat is my:

MANNY MOTA 1976 Bicentennial gamer!
