D.Pedroia GU Bat ebay

I have never seen him tape his bats in this fashion i know earlier in his career he used tape sometimes but never seen this any thoughts

My guess is that is a Dustin Pedroia bat used by Jason Bay. I got in a Bay Old Hickory bat that was photomatched with an identical tape job to the one from Sportsworld. The use characteristics also point to Bay. Hope that helps

I have not seen this tape job on a Pedroia bat nor on the several Bays I have owned or seen. Still, sometimes guys try different things in the cage or in BP or preseason. Has some OK tar on it and good use, though the impact pattern is all over the place (implying a possible BP bat to me).

Further, the date on this bat looks like January, and I think he used these 2 tones in the preseason or WBC this year. You might look at the pre-season photos for the tape, but I doubt this is a primo Pedey specimen. Last year (2008) he ordered a bunch of these 2-tone s318's and did not use them much...Ells used them for a few weeks, but put his number on them all. This is a 2009 bat, so is not one of those.

Bay's bats have been taped at the knob on several bats during the second half of the season. There was a picture of Bay on the front cover of the Providence Journal a few months ago clearly showing him using a Pedroia Old hickory with a taped knob.
