I'm not helmet expert, but have a a bunch of Atwater pics. I couldn't find one pic with the snap button next to the D. It doens't mean a pic doesn't exost, I just could find one between my football cards and Getty images.

Looks like Atwater started to wear this style mask from Sep-Oct of 1993, then picked it up again in Sep 1995. But like you said, I cannot come across a picture of him wearing a Broncos helmet with the high hookup snap next to the "D" decal.
