Here are some picture of a 2008 A-Rod jersey from AMI. Doesn't the Steiner letter look a little odd. It looks just like the Mo W.S. jersey on ebay that we discussed(http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=30467). Even the hologram looks off. I thought by 2006 all game issued and used items came with numbered holograms. If you look at the top portion of the hologram on the jersey, it has a jagged edge. It looks like some cut, the numbers off. Maybe to hide the hologram number? Could it have bin a game issued jersey with a game issued LOA, that someone turned into game used. Here are links to both jersey. It looks like someone has found a way to manipulate Steiners LOA and Holograms, or am I just crazy:eek: . But this also makes me wonder more about the oddity of the Jeter jersey LOA in my previous post. (http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?p=168720#post168720)

That COA is not legit - the font is off as well as the writing style. You are also correct that the hologram should be numbered on both the LOA and the jersey.

Seems this is the new scam with Steiner LOAs and the older holograms. Its too easy to get your hands on the older holograms from cheap items in an attempt to dress up a fake item for hundreds or thousands in possible return. I personally don't collect higher end stuff like that so I'm not worried much. But once these people start perfecting the fonts and such, if I was into higher priced stuff I wouldn't be touching anything from steiner with the older unnumbered holograms.

The fonts on this one do look similar to the Mo jersey and may very well be from the same scam source. The Jeter looks to be a similar scam but probably a different person. Be careful folks.

If you zoom in close on the letter for the ARod jersey on AMIs site, you can see that the description slants down to the right compared to all the rest of the text. There's no doubt in my mind that the description text was added in there, and because the scammer decided to make a 3 line description as opposed to 2 lines like in the Mo auction, he wasn't as proficient in lining up when he moved it up to accomodate the description to fit in the exact size space from his scanned letter.

i emailed steiner this morning to check out the hologram number on the previously discussed jeter jersey. no response. customer service A+.

can a steiner letter be dated via the letterhead style? the style of this letterhead is different from what i've seen on other 2008 pieces like this one: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showpost.php?p=168715&postcount=3

maybe someone can post example steiner letters from 2005-2009.

Rudy,
I also emailed Steiner this morning about the jeter jersey. I recieved a email back from Brooks Cowan, in which he stated that he believed the jersey was not legitament. He said that there is no way the would let a Jeter jersey out with a LOA that stated it was worn by him. He also said that the steiner hologram on the letter was no in the right place. It should be placed directly under the Steiner signature.

well thats fine but what does the hologram number correlate to then? 90252. sure would be neat to find out. it must correlate to something in their system.

rudy,

where are you getting the 90252 from?

scott and i are sort of messing up this thread. we're referring to this jeter jersey: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270479497529

it's in reference to this thread: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?p=168720

i emailed steiner this morning to ask what 90252 correlates to. scott got his email answered, mine apparently got sucked into a black hole.

Wrong size jersey, no extra length, fake steiner letter fake steiner hologram = fake Alex Rodriguez jersey! What a shame just another example why you can't trust most auctions houses. What a pile of crap!

At the risk of sounding like an arrogant know-it-all (which I in NO way claim to be.....I'm learning every day like we all are).......I didn't need to see any of the fake letters, modified stickers, or other nonsense accompanying this jersey.

All I had to do was take a quick look at the number "13" on the back of the jersey. It struck me right off as being bad. The numbers aren't squared up properly, and the space between them is too wide.

But that's just me and my knack for picking out the garbage.

Whew, thanks for the info. I emailed Joel the other day AFTER I bid on it to just see what he thought. Stupid me, I didn't click through ALL the photos and notice the bad Steiner letter for the first thing to notice and then all the other inconsistencies others pointed out already.
I had the highest bid for the last day or so and thank goodness I got outbid tonight.

This is one bid I'm glad I lost! :p
