    Donnie Baseball 1992 Jersey

I was interested in the jersey being offered by Schulte auction. Its my understanding that Schulte acquired this jersey directly from Mattingly himself. But there is a couple big red flags about this jersey. I thought by 1992 the Yankees switched to Russell jersey and not wilson? also I thought in 92 they did away withe the strip tag in the collars? So if this is correct how could this be a 1992 jersey? Did mattingly make a mistake?

I am not sure how Mattingly would make the mistake.

But here is a picture of a Road Jersey from 1992 with the tag on the front tail

FWIW, while I don't know anything about Yankee jerseys, I can tell you that Ray Schulte has been Mattingly's agent for years (dating back to his days in AAA).

i've never seen a yankees wilson jersey beyond 1991. russell did replace wilson in 1992. that said, if schulte really did get the jersey from mattingly then either its a salesmans sample or perhaps mattingly special ordered it from wilson in the same way that nolan ryan wore goodman in 1992 while the rest of the rangers wore russell.

for what its worth, the strip tag is the correct wilson font for 1992.

Thanks Guys, for the input! I did no the Schulte was Mattingly agent, so thats why I find it even more funny that there is a question on the jersey. Like Rudy suggested could this be a special order, or a salesman sample?

Because Wilson still made jerseys in 1992. He said he had never seen a 1992 Yankees Wilson jersey, not that he had never seen a 1992 Wilson jersey from any team.

The jersey is back up on Schulte Auctions and they had Denny Esken check it out as well. The COA has Schulte, Mattingly and Esken's signatures now.
