    1979 Williams #28 Oakland A's jersey ???

There is a current auction for a 1979 Oakland A's game worn "Williams" #28 McAuliffe jersey. Granted the jersey appears to be a properly tagged Oakland McAuliffe, it obviously is not game worn by former Cubs and A's HOFer Billy Williams. Although one could think that with the B. Williams and the number #28 on the back. Billy Williams finished his career as a player with Oakland in 1976. He did come back as a coach in 1983, but the A's were no longer wearing the Kelly green McAuliffe (last worn in 1980) and he certainly did not wear size 38. Jim Todd wore #28 for all of 1979 and the short time he was in spring training in 1980 and was also far from a size #38.

Williams DID wear #28 (Joe Rudi wore #26) during his two seasons playing for Oakland. Of course, 1979 was NOT one of those seasons (1975-76 were). Plus, both game-used Williams jerseys from that era I have seen were size 40, not size 38.
