I'm wondering about the following bat; any comments would be appreciated:

Brooks requested the weight of his bats be marked in pencil by the factory. This bat has a "31" on the knob. However, according to Vince Malta's book, Brooks didn't order any MC44 31-ounce bats from this labeling period.

So, I have three questions. First, some players, like Killebrew, wrote the bat weight on the knob along with their uniform number. There is a small "2" on the knob..... is this a Brooks use characteristic, and might he have considered a 31-ounce bat a 32-ouncer, figuring it was close enough?

Second, if this is not a bat Brooks ordered (and it is not his pro-stock model), might it be a team index bat? Were weights typically written on the knobs of team index bats?

Third, Malta's book indicates there was an order of 12 bats, unspecified model, shipped to Brooks' father in April, 1965. Would it be likely/unlikely the weight would be written on the knobs of such bats, if the player was indifferent about the model number?

Thanks!
