Does a 40's D2 Doerr bat, almost 35", match records?

    Thanks, Ken

    Re: doerr bat

Hi Ken - during the 40's, Doerr had 9 orders of D2 bats between 1946 and 1948. All orders were 35" in length and weights were 32 opunces to 34 ounces. Most orders were 32 ounces. Let me know if you need any other info - thanks, Jim - jcaravello@nc.rr.com

This one actually dates to the 50's. It's a D2, 35", and approx 32.5 oz, although there is a chip out of the knob, so perhaps it should be 33 oz. Can you narrow down the dates on this for me?

      Thanks, Ken

          Hi Ken--

Here's is the history: The Doerr bat which was eventually indexed as Model D2 was referenced as "His (Doerr's) Model 8-4-39" and was essentially made off a Babe Ruth 8-17-33 Model The standard length for Doerr's D2 was diagrammed at 35 inches. As Jim stated above, this model was used frequently by Doerr throughout his playing career, with the last documented order during his playing career recorded as shipped on 2/16/48.

          With a 1950-1960 label, the documented orders of Model D2 in Doerr's factory records during that labeling period occurred post-career on 5/17/54 (34.5" / 34 oz / 2 bats), 3/8/56 (35" / 34 oz / 12 bats), 5/15/56 (35" / 33 oz / 3 bats), and 5/6/60 (35' / 32 oz / 3 bats).

So the doerr bat you bought was a coaches bat from the 50s? That sucks.
