    TGIF Restaurant Auction

Went to the TGIF auction today specifically to get this Piedmont Tobacco porcelain sign and was able to get it for $120.....grabbed a bunch of stuff today, but got to go coach my kids T-Ball game and will add some photos later.

I always assumed most of the stuff in the TGIF's wasn't truly vintage. Is that not the case?

There is some "fake" stuff in TGIF, but much of it is real...We had a thread about this on the old board...don't know if the archives exist for that board, but they had buyers who went to auctions and picked this stuff up for their restaurants.

Stuff was going very cheap....I got the old megaphone for $1, The catcher's mask was in a box of other non sports related items for $10, The Mother's Bread tin sign for $5, The repro coke tray with Napoleon Lajoie for $1, The shinguards for $1 each, the antique Field Hockey stick for $5, the Adirondack Little League Johnny Roseboro bat for $5 along with some wooden skis, antique pool cues, wooden snowshoes in the same lot with the bat......the Cubs bat for $1 along with the Mexican Pinata bat, and the framed photo which is a repro for $5.....My brother scored a whole bunch of stuff that will be hitting ebay soon...lots of authentic advertising signs and whatnot.

The archive does exist for the old site...I found the thread.

Good for you Dan! When I first saw this post I distinctly remembered back to our discussion last year on the old thread. I remembered you were after that Piedmont sign and we discovered TGIF was auctioning off their retaurants as they changed to their new theme. Nice pick up. Congrats!

Yes. Thank you to whoever it was that pointed out to me that TGIF was auctioning off their restaurants or I never even would have followed what was going on at my local one....They did almost no advertising for this auction.
