Is this considered flame tempered? I think so but want another opinion. Thanks.

Looks like a nice Powerized model from 1980 - 83. Murray did order R161 during his career, but you should check order records to be sure. It's definitely a game model bat, but it's very hard to see if it has any game use from those bad pictures.

It appears to be flame tempered.

I'd ask for a picture of the knob, as Murray usually placed an ornate (dual color; outlined, etc.) "33" on his gamers....

There is a good feature page on vintagebats.com for Eddie Murray - has plenty of info and pics for you to use

That's funny. I see Powerized and Marcus sees Flame Tempered. I guess that tells you how bad those pictures are.

per vintagebats, the knob hopefully looks like this on an orioles bat.

Well, I asked about the knob and I knew about how Murray liked to outline the number. Well, the seller said it was blank. I had to pass as I just don't see much wear and of course the lousy pics didn't help. Only went for $202 so others seemed to have the same opinion.

so was it concluded whether this was a legit gamer?

what we know:
36 length 36 oz
R161 Model
Powerized
early 80's

seems the bat went on the cheap. can we blame it on the poor photo.

The factory records have R161 in 36 in. 36 oz. but that is why the flame tempered was important. I do think the bat is game issued, but I just don't like the lack of Murray characteristics. No tar, tape, ball marks, number on knob, etc. And the poor pics didn't help matters.

Bat matches H & B records for orders in mid-season 1983 and early 1984.

I just missed the end of the Murray bat auction. I wish I would have had a chance to bid.

The bat looks good. It was powerized, not flame tempered.

Somebody got a real good deal.

That's how Ebay works sometimes.

I think it probably sold for what it's worth. From those bad photos, it looks like it was barely used if not at all. It's closer to an issued bat than a used bat.
