I have been offered a Walter Payton game used jersey.
The jersey was given by Walter Payton to a person that worked for his foundation. The jersey is a size 44 and that seems right but the tag is on the left side instead of the right. It comes with Walter Payton business card autographed. The jersey looks like it was autographed in the front and back.
Can anyone PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks in advance

Does it have team repairs hit marks, etc?

Everything about it looks legit with the exception of the tag placement but I suppose anything's possible. The tagging is from 1987 as evidenced by the silk/plastic material and the signatures all look to be authentic when compared to the handful of Payton sigs in my own collection.

As Dave mentioned, the most important detail would be evidence of game use.
We all know that Walter basically got hammered on almost every play from scrimmage so any Payton jersey would show lots of damage.

Thanks for the help guys.
I'm going to set something up with the seller to go see the jersey for myself and take better pictures. I really hope its the real deal

Here are some pictures from 1987. The name on the back looks like it lineups.

In the pic that you posted from getty images, notice how close the bottom of the name is to the top of the numbers. They are very close and the name may not even be on a nameplate. Only better pics or inspect it in person will show this. I am in no way a Payton or Bears jersey expert, but I don't know if Payton ever wore a jersey without a nameplate. Hopefully, someone will give you some insight on this matter. Provenance and wear are very important too. I wouldn't make a rash decision to buy until you know everything you need to know about this jersey. Good luck!

Sorry, about my last post. The pics from the actual jersey for sale has the name and numerals closer together. The one from Getty shows it the way it should be, on a nameplate and further apart. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for the help.
The jersey for sale does have a name plate but what else I see is that the jersey for sale the name and numbers are really close compared to the getty image.

Well I went to see the jersey and the jersey has no repairs.
But jersey does look good and I'm thinking that it might be a game issued jersey. The jersey was given to the seller by Walter Payton. He signed the front and back of the jersey.
Here are some of the pictures I took.

Sorry for the large pictures I have no idea how to make them smaller.
Can someone tell me how to make the smaller?

I use this free program to resize pictures. Spyware free and free and easy to use.
