Dave...

Great Story! I love reading things like this. When I was in Cooperstown for the Ripken/Gwynn cermony I went into a card shop on main drag just seconds after a kid had opened one of those "random autographed baseball packs" and the kid pulled the Ruth Gerhig signature baseball. The energy in that shop was surreal and awkwardly calm if you know what I mean.

Thanks for sharing...even though I'm not Sammy ;)

I agree it's a great story...

The sigs look a little 'different' to me. An autograph guy I know tipped me off to the article. I live off of a Main Street - and we used to have a card shop until the economy shut the doors...stuff like this was just awesome when it happened.

Sammy is the auto expert, and I didn't want to cause controversy since it's kinda OT. Didn't want to detract from the game used threads.

It kills me that a card company can cut up something and place it on a card and it suddenly skyrockets the value of it all the while they are destroying a piece of history. They value these cut autos at $20,000 which is comical since you can get orginal unaltered autographed 3 x 5's of Ruth and Gehrig for less than $10k.

I remember when the Sweet Spot cards cam out and there was a Ted Williams numbered 9/9 that sold for over $6k. I just don't understand why some collectors think that a perfectly good autographed Ted Williams ball when cut up and placed on a card and then numbered increased the value over 10 times the amount of the original item.

Wow. First glance at those autographs - both look "off". I wonder where those came from?

Gehrig looks ok but its too light to be sure. Ruth looks fake.

The real prize would be finding an Ernie DeWitt Blue Jays autographed card.

Hi,

In my opinion, neither the Lou Gehrig or Babe Ruth autographs are authentic.

In case anyone is wondering the auction is back up with additional material and documentation.

I prefer this one up for auction right now:

Ruth, Maris, Munson, and DiMaggio...now that is a card. And the Ruth is definitely real on it.
