For Immediate Release (206) 272-2706

SEATTLE – The Seattle Sonics today announced the opening of a new fundraising initiative to support the organization’s season-long hurricane relief efforts. Called “Jerseys off our Backs,” the Sonics will invite fans to bid on authentic, game-worn jerseys from Sonics players at a silent auction on the concourse level during the game. The winning bidder will be escorted to the player tunnel following the game to receive the player’s jersey.

The “Jerseys off our Backs” initiative tips off today as the Sonics host the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in a 12:30 p.m. matinee at KeyArena. Ray Allen’s jersey will be on the auction block today, with other Sonics jerseys available for bidding at select games throughout the remainder of the season. All auction proceeds will benefit the Sonics & Storm T.E.A.M. Foundation’s hurricane relief efforts.

The mission of the Sonics & Storm T.E.A.M. Foundation is to support community programs that Teach, Encourage And Motivate children, young adults and families in Washington state. T.E.A.M. seeks to enrich communities by supporting educational and athletic initiatives with an emphasis on basketball. Sonics & Storm players, coaches and staff work through the foundation to support initiatives such as NeighborHoops, which refurbishes community basketball courts, as well as student scholarships and wheelchair basketball.
