Just wanted to get some opinions on this 1997 Griffey jersey, the patches all look good my only concern is the although it has the usual 2 inch extra length it is a size 48. I was under the impression that he didn't start wearing size 48 until his Reds years (although I have found one that sold at grey flannel that was 1998 and had the 2 inch extra length and was size 48) .

From what I remember, the 1997 jerseys from Griffey himself (Unique Sports) were size 46.

Reid, One of the Griffey jerseys I have is from Unique Sports is a 46. Signed below the nameplate. This one doesn't have the extra length tag. I'n not sure how many are out there, but this one shows quite considerable wear.

PS: Your Duke boys at it again with another run?

Danny is yours the same year with same patches? I still can't believe Kentucky lost! And Duke is still in, its like Laettner all over again.

I have heard before that players will occasionally have different sizes each season to potentially accomodate for layering under the jersey's during cold weather. But, with the M's having played that season in the Kingdome, Im not sure if that theory applies.

The handful of back photos of The Kid from 1997 on Getty all seem to show a greater arch on the NOB than this jersey possesses.

FYI the White Sox are auctioning off a Griffey jersey on MLB auctions from his short stint with them. It does not say it is MLB authenticated only that it is game worn so before bidding I would contact them to see if you can get more details/pics. I know it is not the ideal and most collectors would much rather have a Mariners or even a Reds but it is better than nothing.
