I have two shinguards and the chestguard. Marlins A-ball used.

It's currently sitting between a chair and the wall in my room. It'd be nice to display it a little bit better. Any ideas? Don't want something to expensive...and don't want it to take up much space.

I have seen chest protector and shin gaurds hanged on the wall and it looks great. Just set the shinnies on either side of the chest as though their is somewhere wearing them and crouched down. It looks surprisingly good.

anyone have any ideas on how to display these items? i picked up my first set of gear and would like to display it, rather than have it sit on my chair. i would like to hear what everyone's take is on the subject.

There was a great picture of a stand up mannequin with a head that was used for a catcher's display. It was in a thread about display rooms or man caves and was posted in the last 2 weeks.

I inquired about it because I also have many sets of catcher's gear.

Momen -

Actually, fairly cheap as it did not include the 'stand' for it... I paid $40 for it at a local (Denver area) used retail display store...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v738/xpress34/Basement/Basement4.jpg

It's a complete VINTAGE Nokona Cather's set up... mask and chest protector are circa 1940's - 1950's... the shin guards are fairly scarce 'smooth front' circa 1920's. The two catcher's mitts are circa 1950's - 1960's - the one on the left is a store model Nokona Bulldog... the one with the ball in the pocket is a Vintage Pro Model Nokona (I grew up in Texas and just wanted a Texas made catcher's outfit!)

The uniform is a vintage 1950's Kansas City Transit Railway 'company' uni (a gift from my brother the train collector) and the lantern on the right is a vintage KCTRW lantern.

The mannequin also has on vintage stirrups (blue w/ white stripes) to match the blue lettering/numbering on the uniform as well as vintage cleats.

The cleats in front are vintage Wilson's (1950s - 1960s) that are UNWORN... I found them at a local Goodwill about a year ago for $6.00!!!

The undershirt is newer, but looks vintage and the head actually has a vintage stadiun souvenir NYY hat (with the stitched on NYY patch) under the mask as well as a halloween mask covering the styrofoam head.

The mannequin is a headless mannequin that had a rod sticking out the neck, so I stabbed a wig head on it.

I just received some Toby hall game used Chest Protector & Shin Guards, circa 2005.

Any suggestions on displaying them????

Good thread idea. I am curious myself as I would love to display my Victor Martinez gear as well. The only catcher's gear I have seen displayed was hung on hooks on a wall...far from perfect but cost effective enough. I guess you could put it on a mannequin but that may look strange without a uniform.

Here is mine. I used sandwich bag ties to hold it in place so I wouldnt mess up the gear.

Most of the pictures and links to catchers displays seem to have disappeared. Anyone have cool displays of catchers gear. I have a full set of Wilson Ramos catchers gear that I want to display with a Venezuela jersey. I have cleats too if they can be worked in.

Looks familiar :) Very nice! I'm also very interested in seeing how other collectors display their catchers gear.

The shin guards look like they are floating. Very cool.

They were also on a stand and secured at the knee cap to a set of molded inserts which I was able to keep. I should find out where they got the stands from.

Thanks Abe. I brought these on an Ebay auction back in the late ninties. These along with a face mask were on auction and i didnt win the face mask. I wish I did so i can have a complete set and i'm sure the guy who ended up with the face mask feels the same way.

Great stuff. I have been wanting to add catcher's equipment to my Rangers collection for awhile. Are there any tricks to getting these types of items? Obviously Pudge gear is the ultimate grail for a Texas fan, but I was really hoping to land Pierzynski's gear from this season or Napoli's from his tenure in Arlington.

I have Pudge's catcher's gear from his 1st season with the Nats. One day I will display all of my catchers gear.

Glad you got it so quick! That is awesome! I've always found catchers gear to be about the toughest game used items to get! Glad I could share with you!
