AMI - '95 Rice jersey w/ team letter

Any thoughts from any Rice experts (ie. jersey characteristics)? Looks legit, but dunno. The Young red jersey with "team letter" was suspect a month or two back (there was a thread on here about it) and just never know if the actual letters "matches" the actual offered jersey.

I always hate when football jerseys of star players have ZERO to the slimmest of wear on them, esp running backs and wide receivers. You can't tell me there wasn't ONE, single tackle to not warrant any heavy/light dirt or grass stains? Hmmm....

The photos don't show the manufacturer sleeve logos. Keep in mind, Wilson use a unique sleeve logo in 1995 only (shield with W and S inside in diagonal arrangement). The tags look OK. Hard to say for certain without viewing it in hand.

i have a 1995 Rice home shirt that i bought from MOS in late 1995, early 1996 that is very similar to this shirt up for auction. it has a team letter, with the correct watermark and shows little use. it has the regular Wilson W on both sleeves NOT the W/S tag. There are many getty images of Rice in 1995 with both kinds of shoulder patches. Take a look at getty #81859467. It shows perfectly the shirt with the shoulder patches and sleeves that i have.

The Steve young shirt that also had the team letter (with the correct watermark i may add) from Sarge92 on ebay is probably a preseason shirt. i have photomatched it to a getty image, that i am having trouble finding again, but has both the loose thread on the NFL neck shield and very similar pattern of holes in the cloth on the front 8. i dont own the SY shirt. I just did some research on it but found a playoff shirt with team letter from 1993 instead (a game i was at so it had much more sentimental meaning). I will try and post the image i have as it is on my desktop.

It is weird how that happens. It is the same issue with my Marvin Harrison jersey the thing looks so legit but shows literally no wear so idk maybe they wash them really, really, really good or something.

          Legaleagle,

You should try buying a blacklight and putting your jersey under it. You may see old dirt stains or at least detergent remnants....

Thanks that is a good idea, I didn't think of that but will defintely try it now. Mears gave it an A10 based on the fact that he inscribed it GU and from a specific game but it is originally from ASI so I am concerned. all the alterations are right but it might just be a backup jersey. I bought it from JO though so if it is clean after the blacklight test I am sure I will be able to get a refund.

              Thanks Dave!

Yea, just scouring Getty's for about 2mins, I've found several photos of his red jersey for the 1995 season that show a couple different variations of the sleeve logos, but what's funny is the AMI jersey has NO logos whatsoever.. Hmm...
The only that is if maybe, just maybe, for one game he had a jersey without any Wilson W/S or just W logo, but I don't know for sure.
              The quest continues!

1: "Special" Wilson W/S shield logo

2: Regular Wilson 'W' above 8-0 numbers on sleeve

3: Regular Wilson 'W' logo in front of 8-0 numbers

Re: AMI - '95 Rice jersey w/ team letter

The Steve Young from ebay via Sarge92 had the same issue-no W logo on the shoulders. i pointed this out and he produced a football card with a pic of Young wearing a jersey from 1994 with sleeves without the W on the shoulders. I was doing some further research on Wilson shirts from 1990-1993 and many have no Wilson shoulder logo, many have it only on one sleeves and some have it in front or behind the numbers. I think it is quite tough to tell if a shirt is good or not just by the shoulder W.

When i lived in SF and bought shirts from MOS i used too go thru every box of 49ers shirts prior to sale to the public and there was an incredible variation in wear on the shirts. Most had a piece of masking tape on the neck stating the game it was used (i still have the tape for the shirts i still own). Even though the tape was there and the shirt had a team letter, some shirts showed very little wear, whereas others were destroyed. The Grbac GU 1995 shirt i have with authentic team letter also shows minimal use but has the W/S logos on both shoulders.

The AMI Shirt may be good as it is similar to mine but it was on ebay for at least a month for 1750 and didnt sell. The seller also had a Montana Chiefs shirt and a Romo practice shirt for sale. the Montana had a thread on GUU and the Romo sold quickly.

Re: AMI - '95 Rice jersey w/ team letter

So, I am in the process of going through all the images I can find from 1995 and Rice in his road red jersey.
However, I'm finding that he's wearing his road red jersey for home games too? It's not consistent jersey wear colors when comparing to all the 49ers 1995 complete game schedule?
Am I missing something here? Does SF normally do this (or at least back then)?

Here's their road games from 95:
                    9/3/95 - @ New Orleans Saints
                    9/25/95 - @ Detroit Lions
                    10/15/95 - @ Indianapolis Colts
                    10/22/95 - @ St. Louis Rams
                    11/12/95 - @ Dallas Cowboys
                    11/20/95 - @ Miami Dolphins
                    12/10/95 - @ Carolina Panthers
                    12/24/95 - @ Atlanta Falcons

But what I found is Rice in a red jersey for their home game vs. Saints on 10/29/95 and vs. Patriots on 9/17/95??

Anyways, so far I am finding that from the MNF SF/Vikings game on 12/18/95 and the SF/Saints 10/29/95 game no Wilson logos on the sleeves.
So, maybe it's possible there were a couple '95 red jerseys with no logos??

typically most NFL teams wear their dark color jersey for home games. That is why the 49ers wear red at home. The Cowboys, Dolphins (during hot day games), sometimes Jets, Redskins? are some of the exceptions

The Jets wear their Green at home white on the Road.

typically yes, but sometimes they do wear white at home

Football is very different from baseball when it comes to their jerseys. Unlike baseball where home is white and away is gray, teams in the NFL will wear white, especially if it is hot. The Dolphins will only wear the Aqua at home if it is a night game. Every day home game consists of white jersey and white pants.
