Carlie,

Here are photos of 4 Gary carter bats.

The top two are from 86 and the bottom are an 87 and 88.

Rawlings changed their labeling in late 1986 to the labeling depicted in the 87 & 88 Carters in photo (from late 86- 89). There are also a colored ring on the bats which is not in the photo. The color of the rings on the Carter bats are blue.

Typically on the knobs of Rawlings bats are stamped the player model number (ie 113A, 460B) and underneath in smaller fonts a lot number followed by year. During the 80's the year number was a single digit representing the last digit of the year (86 would be "6", 87 would be "7", 88 would be "9")

When the 90's arrived Rawlings used 90, 91,etc and starting w/ the year 2000 they started using two digits (ie 2000 is "00", 2001 is "01", etc)

An example of an 1988 bat knob stampings would be

113B
194 8

Hope this helps.

What kind of bat do you have?

-David

PS: Mike & Jim I hope you don't mind me chiming in.;)
