Anybody have any opinions on this jersey, and why it has no neck tagging.

No confidence in this jersey. I have NEVER seen a Cubs Rawlings jersey with the inside tail tagging this has. Plus, I believe Ryno was up to a 44 by 1989.

Thanks Dave, I am far from an expert on any jersey, but this one obviously has major issues. It's amazing how such a reputable Auction House like Hunt lets this stuff get by them. In their February 2010 auction one of their FEATURED items was a fake Walter Payton jersey, they eventually pulled. UNREAL !

Well, the first issue is that in 1989 the Cubs were still wearing pullover jerseys not button ups. They switched to button ups in 1990.

Lots of red flags with this one.

I emailed some concerns to Hunt, we'll see what happens.

They also have a very questionable game used Toronto Blue Jays 1977 jersey in their auction this month. I sent them my concerns several days ago, still haven't received an answer back.

They pulled the Payton jersey after SEVERAL GUU members e-mailed them. It definitely took more than one. But one guy took the credit for getting them to take it down proclaiming himself the "savior." LOL But, we won't go there.

This is just ridiculous. Between this jersey and the bogus Ripken in the other thread, thank goodness for members here because I was thinking of bidding on a couple of the "nicer" jerseys in this auction, but now I have zero confidence in any jerseys they have.
Thanks Mr. Davis!

The scary thing is they are one of the biggest and most reputable auction houses around. How the heck could they let such an obvious fraud as the Sandberg into their auction. Shame on them. It's their job to make sure these items are legit. Especially when it's something like a button down vs a pull-over.

I emailed them last night actually Daisy there and sent her the links with the Ripken and Sandberg jerseys. She forwarded them to the higher ups. So we will see. But that is a big red flag and someone is not doing there research when they wore pullovers in 89 and a button up is being auctioned off as an 89. This group is awesome..

I just received this email from Cheryl at Hunt.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your input on the Sandberg jersey. We have pulled it from the sale. We will continue to research the jersey. If we can document perhaps if Rawlings sent it to Sandberg for a reason or he ordered the jersey with special specifications we will re-offer the jersey at a future auction.

I'd like to commend Hunt Auctions for doing the right thing.

Congrats... That's 1 down, but about 30 more to go :)
Ok, maybe not 30, but at least 2 others have been talked on this board that have some really serious problems..

The Puckett WS jersey seems to be commanding a huge price right now over $10k, but like the other "Chili Davis" consigned jerseys, is it real??? If I'm plopping that much down, it better be friggin spot-on with 100% authentic documentation/photomatching.

That's why Meigray is #1 in this department. They need to expand to more sports and teams! :) Spending 30k last night on a Kobe Bryant NBA Finals jersey is worth it. Single game worn jersey at the NBA's best game. Buying the Puckett WS jersey for $10k+ with little/no solid provenance = pissing your money away and hope it's good.

I also received a response from Daisy from Hunt Auctions today. The jersey that I'm interested in is still questionable, but wanted to follow up that someone did in fact get back to me.

Looks like Hunt took down the jersey. Good stuff on behalf of GUU members to rid auction houses of questionable items.
