1980s Cubs Uniform Question

A quick question for the experts...

What year did the Cubs begin wearing batting practice jerseys?

I have a game used Cubs BP jersey, with 1980-1985 Majestic tagging. Based on the year in which the club began wearing BPs (for example, I know my Mets began wearing them in 1981), I can further narrow down who wore it.

This isn't my area of expertise, but I do have a friend who does collect cubs jerseys. He says that they began wearing bp jerseys in the early 70s. I hope this helps.

Thanks for your willingness to help, I do appreciate that... however, that information is not accurate. No major league baseball teams wore BPs as early as the early 70s. Some didn't start wearing them until the mid-80s.
I really need accurate information here from an expert.

The Cubs introduced the BPs when they came back after the 1981 midseason strike. Problem is, they used Wilson BPs from 1981-86. They didn't go to Majestic BPs until 1987. when they joined Rawlings in supplying them to the Cubs.

Thanks for the information. Maybe this next question would help me further narrow this one down.

The jersey style is listed as having being worn from the early 1980s to as late as 1993. The Majestic tag would help further narrow it down, but as you say, they didn't start using Majestic until 1987.

I guess now the big question is... have you ever seen this specific Majestic tag as late as 1987? The primers on this site state that it was used until "mid 1980s" (where I originally got "1985" from) but I suppose 1987 would also be considered "mid 1980s" -- especially since the next tag in the primer is listed as "late 1980s"
