Saw an interesting trivia nugget on Dave Davison's (ballhawknet) website that, while not earthshaking, certainly is pretty unique.

The rout Cincinnati smacked the Cubs down with on the 4th (14-3 Cincy) saw three home runs make it to Waveland Avenue, two by Drew Stubbs and one by backup catcher and well-traveled guy Corky Miller.

Davison snagged the Miller on the fly, and reflected on it on his website. The ball he caught was Miller's 10th CAREER home run. Of those ten, Davison owns 2.

What are the odds that anyone...Waveland Ballhawk, inside Ballhawk, or just plain ol' fan...would end up with 20% of a player's lifetime production of going yard? Rich Buhrke caught 9 Ernie Banks HRs overall....but Banks hit 512 total and Buhrke hawked him as a home team player, meaning 77 or 81 chances to be on the receiving end of a Banks blast. Miller, on the other hand, spent exactly 14 games as a Chicago team player (White Sox), played in a park which Davison doesn't frequent as much, and has always been a backup, meaning maybe 2 or 3 chances to play him in a given season in his normal visitor status.

I don't think Dave D. is looking to corner the market on Corky Miller gamers...but he deserves props for an obscure but nearly impossibly ratio of catches to total HRs.

"The Happy Youngster" has two of the 16 of Colby Rasmus' home runs from his rookie year. Not sure if they were caught on the fly, I think one was a toss up from Corey Hart, but still really impressive.
