How much is fair market value of:

    1. Jorge Posada Game-Used Batting Helmet with great use and perfect characteristics?

    2. Ozzie Smith game-used + signed fielding glove?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Someone needs to try, so I'll offer my uneducated shot in the dark opinion...

    1. $1,250-1,750

    2. $5,500-7,500

With the economy what it is (oh, oh is that a Political statement?) who's to say what the fair market value is on anything.

I'm going to go with 750 - 1000 for posada just because he's a yankee.
For Ozzie, I'd say less than the previous price posted. Try to find a comparable player's glove somewhere from the same era. Are the items authenticated? That will jack the price up a little more...

Thank you for your replies. I have gotten a few emails off the forum
as well and for Posada "$750-$1250, Just because he's a Yankee" seems
to be the common theme. I think the supply and demand for his helmet
will drive the price way higher but thats just my opinion.
As for Ozzie, I looked on past closed American Memorabilia and saw
that $5-$6K seems to be the average (although the auctions were
from 5+ years ago) which I was very surprised to see.
Maybe because I grew up in NY/NJ and was still in elementary school
during his prime years I don't have a full grasp on his enormous popularity and his significance in the game. My guesstimate was more in the 2-3K range.

Goh, your estimate on Ozzie isn't unrealistic these days. Remember, he was elected to the HOF in 2002, so his prices likely were still affected by that in older auctions (and a better economy). Today, eight years removed from his election and in a poor economy, I'd be shocked to see his glove go for $5-6K. Also, consider your source -- their auctions often resulted in inflated prices, for reasons that have been debated on this forum (allowing consignors to bid on their own lots, for example). For comparison, here's an Ozzie glove from a December 2002 Leland's auction; it sold for $2,812.85.

            http://lelands.com/Auction/AuctionDetailed/12738/December-2002/Sports/Baseball-Equipment/Lot1252~Ozzie-Smith-Game-Used-Glove

Many factors can influence a glove's price, but speaking generally, I think an Ozzie glove today would fetch a price closer to the Leland's auction price than to the American Memorabilia auction price. Just my guess.

              Hey Jeff,
Thank you very much for your input.
I was wondering if you have expertise on Ozzie Smith
game used gloves being that you're from his area.
              Thanks

If you would like to send some pix of the Ozzie glove, I would love to see it and the story that goes with it. Let me know if you would like to talk outside of the forum.

Coa (depending on who from) or provenance is a biggie when determining a value.
