    Houk passes away

Ralph Houk, backup Yankees catcher in the late 1940s/early 1950s who went on to managerial success with the Yankees, Tigers and Red Sox, died earlier today at age 90.

Houk won two World Championships in his first two managerial seasons (1961-62 Yankees).

He was also part of that generation that served in World War Two and had the nickname "Major." The 1961 team had great talent, but he did a good job getting the most out of it, especially Whitey Ford.

I remember his tigers days, he transitioned the team from the remaining 68 guys (kaline, horton, etc) to the guys that formed the 84 team (trammell, whitaker...)...
always looking for Detroit Tiger world series player bats......game used 2006 & 2012 world series items....Quintin Berry bats....also interested in Ivan Rodriguez bats...
          Thank you, Dale
