Can anybody (Dave) tell me when Angels home jerseys were tagged Goodman and Sons? Thanks.

To be truthful, Greg, I haven't seen a whole lot of 70's Angels gamers. I recall a Bill Doyle, c. 1973, and a couple of 1979 jerseys, including Frank Tanana and Joe Rudi ALCS jerseys. Other homes in the 1970s I would have to find exemplars of. Maybe our resident Angels specialist, Tom Duino, could help.

Greg,

Goodman did a lot of the home uniforms during the 70s while Rawlings did a lot of the road uniforms.

Can you be more specific?

Nick

Carew was with the Angels from 1979-1985. Incidentally 1979 was the year they switched from the "Red Sox" style lettering to the font you see on this jersey...unfortunately that didn't help us narrow it down any further.
Bill Henderson's guide has Wilson as the sole manufacturer for all Angels home jerseys from 1979-1985... so unless there is an error here, I don't really see where Goodman fits in. Oddly, he has Goodman as having made home jerseys for the Angels in 1978 and 1986, the year before and the year after Carew played for them. As it is possible that this is not completely accurate, I would defer to an Angels expert. If Tom Duino is reading this, he would be a great source (as Dave already referenced).

At least the shoulder patch puts it no later than 1985, however; unless there is evidence of the 25th Anniversary patch, it not a 1985.

Look at the shoulder seems, the collar, and the sleeve bands. I have several early 1980's Wilsons and they are cut just like that. Look at the difference between the Daryl Sconiers and Carew jersey?

This must have been taken in Spring training 1979. Angels wore a new style starting in 1979, Carew's first season with the team. I believe Dave M. might have stated that teams typically wore the previous year's jerseys in spring training and broke out the new ones for opening day. makes sense, as I have see number of photos like this in my various yearbooks, especially my older Padres yearbooks.

According to the Henderson Style Guides they wore Goodman on and off from 1974 to 1988.

Just be very cautious using this as a "blanket statement" - even if the club wore Goodman in a specific year during this span, that doesn't mean that both the home and road uniforms were done by them.

Perfect example I can use here is if I were to say "the New York Mets wore AIS jerseys from 1995-1999." Technically it is true, but most of the jerseys they wore on field during this era were done by other manufacturers (Russell, Rawlings).
