I posted a pic of the centerbrand of a Babe Ruth bat I saw at a local antique store. Any opinions whether its a gamer or not. No inch marks on knob. Bat measures about 35 inches. Is anyone certain one way or another from just the centerbrand?
Thanks

I know, the grain is a perfect match.

I didn't know if the poster was in stealth mode as to not let anyone know about the auction.

So I was playing innocent....;)

It is one of the most watched items in game used bats right now.....

Seriously, to answer your question. It does appear to be a 1921-31 based on Jeff's website info...

I think it was a reproduction bat, that someone made to look old. The H&B logo does not match up with some small details, the 1 don't have the slash at the top and the small O in CO. And the fact that bat is only at $255.

That bat is definitely a reproduction bat that has been artificially "aged". The size and placement of the 125 in the centerbrand was not produced until the 1950's/60's.

I agree with Marcus. I was made in the 50's or early 60's do the placement of the 2 above the & mark.

Amazing someone actually paid 1000+ for this bat i watched it just to see what it would do. Its unreal more people need to be on this site to get educated. The bad thing is also that someone is going to be real surprised when they try to get it authenticated as a gamer and it gets shipped back as retail bat.

That person has to know it's not a gamer. You'd be hard pressed to get a legit signed ball for that from him. Knowing that his bats sell for hundred of thousands and sometimes more, I can't imagine they thought it's a gamer.

I know what your saying and i wouldn't imagine someone thinking its a gamer either but hey someone more than likely thought they were getting a bargain in these tough economic times.... in all reality why would someone pay 1000+ for a souvenir bat from the early 90s that has been all doctored up to appear older than what it is. The reason i know it is a souvie bat is because i own about 10 of them and i have asked on the forum before what some people thought it was because the labeling and whatnot. Go look at my old post with pics you will have to search for it but i have my bat hanging on the wall in my office just because it looks nice and has decent patina for a 20 year old bat it is no were near the condition of the bat that was listed on ebay yet all the markings are the same and in the same location....

Maybe, I guess it just falls under if it's too good to be true, it is....
