Looking for Aussie Born Players

Hi All,

I'm looking to start my GU collection of Australian born MLB/MiLB players. Only a few Aussie born players have made it to the majors.

Here is a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_players_from_Austral ia) of Aussie Born players who are in/where playing in the MLB. My preference for items is MLB Certified or Team LOA, but also interested in what else is out there.

There are numerous other Aussie born MiLB players, would be interested in stuff of theirs with a Team LOA. Also the members of the Australian national squad (2009 WBC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_national_baseball_team), 2006 WBC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_World_Baseball_Classic_rosters#.C2.A0Australi a), 2004 Olympics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics#Baseball))

Yeah absolutely. Rocca was there, Darren Bennett was probably the most prolific. Ben Graham as well. A lot of punters. This is because one of our national sports, AFL, involves big blokes kicking the ball 50-60m. A lot of AFL players get touted as NFL possibilities at contract time :)

The NFL scene down here is next to nothing. Believe it or not baseball is more popular than NFL, in the sports participation rate. Very few NFL collectors as well. But they have been showing the NFL games on free to air TV which is getting the exposure, it has better time slots that the MLB.

As for special event jersey's, maybe, I'm not too sure but I am going up there again in a few weeks. Email me towards the end of April and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

In MEARS' last auction, they had a 1994 Dave Nilsson Brewers BP jersey up for bis at a $50 minimum, and didn't draw a bid. The jersey is not MLB authenticated (that system didn't exist in 1994), but looks good to me and does come with MEARS paperwork. Contact them at www.mearsonline.com (http://www.mearsonline.com) .

You may have seen this, but there is a GU cap with player LOA of Grant Balfour from the 2012 Japan Series that opened the season for Oakland. It's been relisted on eBay for maybe the third time...not inexpensive, but good provenance and a unique piece.

Thanks Dave, have been watching that hat. Trying to convince myself that for $100 it is worth it. Good provenance on all items, but tried photo matching some cleats a while back and couldn't even get a style match. I know its player LOA but I wonder if the player actually is aware of the repercussions of writing game used on there. For example UA had a Reds hat of Balfour's w/inscription but never made an MLB appearance for Reds. Can't find ST stats from that year either.

Unfortunately Luke Hughes got released yesterday.

Yeah not good. Rough ride for Luke this season but his performances at all levels have been sub-par. Still hoping to chase up those jerseys from 2011 though.

Thanks to all who have helped. Actually got a response back from an MiLB club - Charlotte Knights have been great to deal with. Thats 3 out of 37 emails I have sent (plus countless tweets). Not a great hit rate. Not sure if its just too hard for clubs to help or lazyness...Australian Baseball League teams are the same. Only got 1 response last year (6 teams).

I just picked up what appears to be a 2004 GCL Phillies gamer of Brad Harman. The jersey is alnost identical to a MLB Phillies BP jersey. Jersey is a size 46 by Majestic, 0065 tag inside. The NOB is plated and the number is 12. Jersey is red cool base, with a single dark blue trim line down each shoulder top and sleeve. Harman has autographed the "1" on the back in blue Sharpie. Asking $50 for the jersey, and shipping will be based upon USPS quote. PLMK if this does anything for you.
