    jersey signature

So I have a game issued jersey... I was very excited to find that the player would be doing a signing so I went with the jersey. I have pictures with myself and the player, him signing it, etc. The only thing I didn't know about was using a paint pen which I found out about after the jersey was signed. Instead I had him use a silver sharpie. Seeing as the number is very dark, the signature is a bit light. I was so happy at first, but now (unlike most normal people) am a bit bothered. I guess my biggest concern is the signature fading, especially to the point where you cannot see it anymore. It's in a frame, with the signature to the back, but maybe one day I'll flip it around to that the signature is visible. So my questions are as follows 1) Do you think the signature will hold up? 2) Would you try and get him to reautograph the jersey.. maybe even trace over his previous signature? 3) I doubt it as it is signed and I have proof, but will it hurt the value if I ever plan to sell it? Thanks for you help.

    Re: jersey signature

The player should be ashamed of himself for having such a sloppy signature .

Looks like a upside down tornado .....
    Thank you,

My opinion is the signature is a bit light, but still looks okay. Some pens discolor with age (change color) but don't actually fade-- so I don't know about this fading to nothing. If it stays as is, you're fine resell wise. If it's protected from sun and light, that's the best you can do.

In most cases with the Sharpie Silver marker I have always seen after time the signature fade away or at least to the point where it is barely noticeable.

My personal opinion if you can wait long enough to the point where the signature fades way or not noticeable that much and have the player re-sign the Jersey with a Sharpie Silver paint marker.

If you want to help the fade along do not leave it in an enclosed area and the air after time will fade it quicker for you.

DO NOT HAVE HIM TRACE OVER THE AUTOGRAPH. Have him Resign the Jersey on the front of the jersey on the number. You may not have the back and the players nameside, but the eye appeal will look alot better. Aint please use Silver Pen.

Also, I may have the opportunity to get his signature in the near future.. (maybe)... That being said, now I'm debating if I want to get the other number on the back signed.. his number is double digits. Will it look silly to have both numbers signed? I can't decide...

I would recommend the silver paint pen also, that is what I have used and plan on using tomorrow hopefully at the Reds game.

Also if you plan on having him sign again, have you thought about removing the signature with one of those cleaning/ Clorox/ stain remover type pens? I believe somebody on here has used something like this to remove an autograph before and have it signed again.
Looking for: Joey Votto game used items.

I'm either going to have it signed twice on the back, once on each number, or just leave it. I'd be devastated if I messed up the jersey in any way. The only reason why I'm considering another signature at this point is because I'm afraid the other one will fade away. I don't even know if I'll be able to get another signature... I'm just being optimistic..

I don't, never have, and never will understand the desire to have game worn jerseys signed. Were they worn on the ice or on the field with autographs on them? I guess to each their own but I will pass on buying a jersey if it is autographed.

I was going to post this question actually, weather people got GU items signed as a habit or if they purposely avoided it...Not looking at it from a resale point of view (obviously it would add $$$ to the sale price) just in general. If I had a chance to get something signed, I would much rather get a players auto on a GU item then a baseball card...

To me, it just adds that much more "personality" to it. Yes he wore it, now he also signed it...isn't that what's GU is all about? Getting closer to the player!

                        In my opinion.

The player is Brook Lopez on the Nets. The jersey is not used, it is just game issued...

                            Josh,

Just remove the signature as someone has already said and have him sign the jersey again. It's really not a big deal and you can find ways to remove it without it harming the jersey if you search the site.
